Hey
Right my mates glanza had no 5th gear so we changed the gearbox some odd clutch came out of it too look standard but not for a gt or glanza think it myt be from an avens is as was told they fit but any who changed gearbox and clutch both second hand clutch had a good bit of meat on it so was fine was driving grand for to days he said then the clutch went it the clutch late was in pieces rivets and springs were shattered. So next day we got a brand new clutch and it worked fine for three days now it broke again haven't taken the gearbox out to see what state the clutch is Now but by the sounds of it with car on I reckon it's in bits again.
Anyone able to shed some light on what might??

What all did you change in the clutch, friction plate only or friction plate, pressure plate and bearing?

Gearbox aligned ya. What you mean adjusted for free play??
Like I've changed clutch in my gt few times and never had this problem.
Right there was some clutch in it when we went changing the gearbox think it was an avensis one not sure.
We changed that clutch plate, pressure plate, and release bearing with standard nkk second hand ones. Got two days out of it then it shat itself.
Then he bought the clutch plate, pressure plate, and release bearing again nkk brand new and got three days hope that's a bit clearer.
Still haven't got a chance to take off the gearbox ill should be able to get a picture of first shattered clutch up tomoz it destroyed.
Also was chating to a mechanic who used to work in Toyota he just reckons it's a faulty clutch maybe but y would it happen to two clutchs even though one was second hand.

How was the flywheel looking when you replaced the clutch? Are you sure the flywheel is suited to the 212mm clutch rather than the N/A 200mm?

The first time we changed it I looked at it and seemed grand.
But the second clutch that went in I didn't check but my mate said he did and it was fine.
I'm not sure at all??
Will a turbo clutch fit a n/a flywheel??
How will I know measure the flywheel including the teeth??

A turbo flywheel will not bolt up the n/a 5EFE crank but it will accept a n/a 5EFE clutch(200mm) but you will not benefit from all the friction surface. Like wise the n/a flywheel will not bolt on the turbo 4EFTE crank and neither accept a turbo clutch(212mm). So always make sure you use the correct clutch and flywheel. On thing can be done is that the 3EE flywheel can be bolted on the 5E crank and use a 212mm clutch to utilize the whole 212mm surface.

You need to measure from outer diameter to outer diameter of the friction surface on the flywheel.

A standard 4efte clutch plate does not have springs in it, it has rubber mounts in their place. You must have put another Avensis or other model in as it has springs on the clutch plate, like some uprated clutches. The torque of the turbo engine is doing the damage, over 130 ft/lbs in a standard engine, either that or your mate is dropping the clutch under revs to much, but even so it should last longer than it has.

I would either get a new 4efte standard clutch or a second hand uprated one and see how that goes.

Well got a blue print nkk standard clutch today Although it looks slightly different (very slightly) then the one in the pictures above and put it in. There's springs in this one too and the standard clutch i have in my gt has springs and mine has lasted ages.
Got both clutch from top part and made them well aware it was turbo.

So on google if you search 4efte clutch and go to images the first picture has the 4efte clutch on the right and the Avensis or what ever on the left.

Might companies such as blue print and nkk made a slightly uprated clutch with springs rather than rubber?? and Toyota only use rubber??? just a thought.

Possible the Toyota one only uses rubber. I ran a TRD pressure plate with a refined standard clutch plate for a few years, drag racing and pushing 240 bhp. It didn't fail like that one, makes me feel its not as good quality.

Maybe. Ya it's not as if the clutch was old and tired. It would have to be faulty hopefully it will last.
Cheers for all the help anyways guys.
