Clutch switch/Launch control

Hey Guys

Having an ECU and map in a couple of weeks.
It will be a Dastek Unichip

Ive enquired into launch control. The mapper says I will need to have a clutch switch.
So when clutch is down rev limit is on, when clutch is up rev limit is off.

Starlet doesnt have any switches attached to the clutch as standard far as im aware.
Where shall I get one? Where shall i install it?

Also how will that work when changing gear after launching?

Anyone have a setup like this?

Cheers.

Can you not just hook it into your speed sensor so when stationary its active? thats how the Ultimate does it and many stand alones.

Mine will work from a speed signal like spuddy says I think most of the ones my mapper does work the same way. Once the car reaches 5mph it goes inactive. I have a electronic speedo drive on mine too for the boost buy gear and traction control.

you dont have to have it at the clutch if you dont want it there, steering wheel/gear knob etc etc.. i set up an omex rev limiter with launch control in the mates car, very good limiter.. the ignition cut is 100 times better/smoother than the bee R P.O.S and not violent at all..

Yeah the mapper said I could have a switch anywhere (on dash, steering wheel etc) but i dont want to have to mannually turn the rev limit on or off myself all the time.

I'll ask about using the speed sensor.
Ill also ask about using the handbrake aswell. (Thats how the Bee R works)

Thanks guys.
Any other suggestions welcome.

@Weejohn - This sounds interesting. Dont understand how it would work though. If I had the rev limit for launches at say 3500/4000 revs would that switch not limit my revs to that level during gearshifts? dont want my revs to limited to that level every time I shift. Especially when shifting down. Lol.

@Rory - This is what I am probably going to do at the moment as thats how my Bee*R worked. Unichip will do it much better of course.
Gonna explore Weejohns suggestion a bit more though.

I didnt think you were going to set it so low for launches mate to be honest.

I just used that as an example. But I think u have confirmed my thoughts with your comment. Lol. It will limit revs to whatever level it's set at every time the clutche is down yeah?
Reckon you could set different limits for different gears?

I will have td04 at 1bar on t1r tyres and standard LSD.
I'd have thought it would spin the wheels like mad launching from higher than 4000revs surely?

*EDIT* Lets not get into the launching/revs discussion. Ill trial and error that for myself.
Decided not to use the clutch switch idea and have the launch control wired to the handbrake light. This comes on way before the handbrake is fully engaged anyway so if I dont want to use the handbrake I can still use the limiter.

Cheers fellas.

it shouldn't really matter with the downshifting, I've never encountered a situation where I needed to downshift at full throttle, so having the limiter wont matter on downshifts, they usually only work at full throttle.
