Hey guys, I need some help, my car is not firing at all, just cranking. And I'm getting code 14 through the diagnostic port. Tried two different Ignitors and same code pops up, anything help please on what to check?

Ps I did search on other threads on here but no exact solutions found

Ignitor units are bolted to the bulkhead yes? (only asking cause I was caught out before - they earth to the chassis)

Will stick to the manual for this one:

Code 14 is this:

And directs us to these two test procedures:

Take a breather and go back at it from the start (no pun intended).

@Jay would non contact distributor or bad spark plugs/lead cause the engine code 14 two? or is this purely focused on the connection between ecu and ignitor, and doesn't handle issues after the king lead?

I think the workshop manual assumes you've checked the plugs although last time I had a pluglead go bad it gave me a code 25 (which directs us to the ignition system and a lot of other things lol).

The test steps there ask the ignitor and the distributor to both be checked so a bad one of those could cause the same code I guess.

Because electrics are involved I don't put too much solid faith in fault codes but they are a good indicator.

Yeah best to check everything from a to z.

Small list:
  • Ignitor
  • Leads
  • Sprak plugs
  • king lead
  • Distributor/ contacts
  • Wiring form ignitor to ecu(use method Jay send with the service manual).

hey so good news the car did start today, big relief.
I did check the wiring IGT and IGF yesterday but it was the same, wasn't firing up.
So today after searching and talking to some uk 4efte guys, one said to check if I have some sort of immobilizer... which I dont BUT I have an after market alarm system, which apparently if the battery is disconnected for a long period of time, the control box goes nuts..

Today I checked a few stuffs,
-Ground for Ignitor, and as Jay said yes it grounded when you bolt in to the firewall
-Ground for coil, same grounded when bolted
-and went and looked how to reset the alarm control box..
And code 14 was gone
and bingo car "almost" wanted to start lol.. I said almost because well, sparks were coming to spark plugs 1,2 and 3 but not 4
so used different plugs, different plug wires and it was the same..
decided to remove dizzy cap to check and to my surprise, my rotor arm fell on my hand lmao, so what happened the screws holding the rotor arm backed out and it was loose inside the cap, weird but aye screwed it back tightly and voila... car started right away
thanks Jay and Dutchie, even tho I just saw you guys replies now, it was what i did
