corolla 4efte conversion

hi there i am new to this forum, as you can see with my post count, i am just enquiring as above.

I have been doing some research about this, with our good friend google, and i have found some good info and project across a few forums and decided this is the best forum to get info,

what i am bassically planning to do is to put a 4efte engine in to a corola, dont no the model name but looks like this

20727670006_large.jpg

from my research i no it has the 4ete engine which bassically the same block but with diffrent internals and a turbo strapped to it, what i am enquiring about is what will i need to ful fill this conversion, from what i no i will need

the 4efte block with turbo
4efte ecu
exhaust will have to be modded
and not sure on the loom (will this have to be made from scratch)
i am guessing gearbox is the same

the loom is the biggest challenge i think, i am planning on doing the work my self time is not the issue, and i plan to spend as i earn,

just wandering if i can get some more info on where i can source the the things needed, how much it will cost, any any other tips and advice you can provide me

thanks for reading

we have done this to a corolla like that for the track. its all straightforward except loom as you say. best if you got the complete 4efte loom including the interior bit and use as much of that as you can.

lots more room than a starlet so easy to work at. i think the corolla gearbox bellhousing was different so you will need to put that onto the turbo box, or just use the na box, it might last a while.

To fucking much cos you never stop tuning the bastards lol.

If you are interested in checking to see if its the same, I have the bits that are different from a standard 4efe 75bhp UK spec Corolla/Starlet engine, compared to the JDM spec 4efe that was 100bhp.

Before we converted the Corolla to 4efte we ran the standard 4efe engine in it with thiese mods and the ecu as well. It gave way more power, a higher rev limit (7200rpm limiter) and looks completely standard.

The 100bhp figure was for the stock engine so with a filter and decent exhaust you would see more gains, 101bhp at least lol.

But seriously, its all there to try fitting it if you want, ours is a 1992 and the ecu plugged straight in and off she went. Would need to check yours is the same before fitting.

U2U me or Ted to find out more, we are gay lovers, he likes to receive, I would buck a black eye.

lol cheers mate i dont actully have a car to put it in, my last car was a toyota which i had an accident in and want to get another with a starlet engine, currently i am car less so just enquiring for now but the info i have seen so far does indicate it is pretty feasable, the old toyotas are the most reliable petrol cars i have come across so want to stick to them,

i think i will go the full way ang get the turbo engine, so it sounds as if it would be best to have a donor starlet for the conversion,

best bet i'd say is to use the whole engine, loom and gear box. i think the drive shafts from the corolla will fit the GT/Glanza Box, the engine mounts should be fairly straight forward too. i'd recommend a factoring in Front Mount Intercooler into the budget too. it shouldn't be much differant from a starlet 4EFE to 4EFTE conversion. the most time consuming part i'd say will be making the hybrid wiring loom. i am by no means an expert in this so don't take my words as gospel, i'd advise getting a second opinion.

The minimum you will need is.........
4efte engine complete with turbo and inlet manifold
4efte cat with O2 sensor fitted
4efte power steering pump
4efte engine wiring loom
4efte manual ecu
4efte map sensor
4efte coil pack
front mounted intercooler
exhaust link up.

Use the Corolla box as the 4efte box wont fit unless you change the bell housing, plus the drive shafts are different so the Starlet ones wont fit the Corolla.

Use the Corolla altenator and starter to help make the wiring easier.

You can do a quick link up of exhausts with a little welding.

You will need to custom fit the front mount.

The radiator pipes are a different size so you might have to work with them or fit another rad.

The majority of the work is in the wiring loom, but its not impossible, its been done.

Should be able to do it all for about a grand, depending on how much you spend on the exhaust and front mount.

Hmm, then my Corolla E10 must be some kind of miracle. I've installed my stock 4E-FE gearbox on to the 4E-FTE with no problems at all. The Corolla drive shafts fit fine with any other non LSD FTE gearbox, because that same gearbox is used in the Corolla E10 FX and the Corolla after that with the blacktop in it.

If you have power steering, the 4EFE power steering will not fit on the engine, unless you have a E11 power steering. I used my FTE power steering and that worked okey with some slight modification regarding a leak in the oil feed into the pump.

I'm selling my car in a few months, depending on the conditions the wiring loom maybe sold separately (custom made for FTE into E10).

Don't forget the stock FTE cat will NOT fit because the Corolla has an extra gearbox mount. I've got a custom made downpipe to avoid that problem. The E10 also has a subframe under the car. That sucks because there is little room to get a decent 2,5" exhaust travelling under the car, but it is possible with a guy that knows his stuff.

I believe the FX is the 1.8 4AFE engined Corolla is it not?

I was refering to the 1.3 4EFE engined car for this conversion, the EE111 model I think.

not really, need to take a few. it hasnt really gone too well this conversion, bottom end keeps going but we are now going to put my old gt engine into it and have a gt box with a trd lsd ready. should be quite handy round the track on a td04 at a bar. it also has an evo 6 radiator and an oil cooler to try to keep it from melting.

yes mate, joint project. it has taken a back seat with me forging the starlet but gonna get it onto kirkistown pretty soon. :)

thats the mani i sold wee john, you both own the car dont yous?

LOL that mani and the rad doubled the value of the car!!!!!!

As Ted said we hope to solve our issues with this soon, we tried to do the engine on a budget with old parts we had knocking about and a few rough ones bought in, never lasted surprisingly not.

It will rock when its right, the car handles so much better than a Starlet, with only standard shocks, lowering springs, a home made front strut bar and second hand slicks bought for a few tins of beer!
