CT12 vs TD04L

Ok. So the 4efte comes stock with the CT9. Also, the ct12 fit on this same flange, so it is a direct replacement.

So you ask..... would it be beneficial to upgrade to the ct12 (if you don't want to do the td04l upgrade (from the new WRX))?

How much more boost would this be able to produce safely, the same as a td04l you might ask?

Here are some specs.
CT-12
Trim Inducer 1.535
Minor Dia. Exducer 2.283
Exducer 1.732
Inducer 2.047
Trim 1.909

TD04-09B 50 (from older models)
Trim Inducer 1.365
Minor Dia. Exducer 1.93
Exducer 1.55
Inducer 1.86
Trim 1.6475

TD04-13G 62 (this is from the new wrx TD04L)
Trim Inducer 1.58
Minor Dia. Exducer 2
Exducer 1.625
Inducer 1.812
Trim 1.79

As you can see in a comparison between the ct12 and the td04-13G-62, they both average out to be about the same. If the ct12 fits the 4efte stock manifold, this can be a much easier upgrade than spending thousands on a td04l kit. (from what i can tell)

there are few model of CT12 with different flange, I don't have all specs around, but I would guess the one you mention is not direct fit. the ct12 that is direct fit is pretty close to CT9, shaft and exhaust wheel are a bit bigger, that's it

I had a CT12 (hybrid) then upgraded to TD04(hybrid). the latest one is bigger and more powerfull

apparently they flow minimaly better than the ct9.

I see what ure saying, but I believe after all the trying and testing, its not like theres gonna be a miracle easy turbo out there that bolts straight up and people havent taken full advantage of it, if it worked well, everyone would be doing it

i have had a ct12 from a 1G-GTE engine....tested before my td04l and H...
i you were talking about ct20 or ct26 it will be better to ask ;but the ct12 is a joke in performance in front of the TD04...and TD04 is cheap ...

this thread is a bit old and im new here but ill update with my inputs.
i recently had a ct12 rebuilt and a compressor wheel slightly upsized and balanced. the power was the same at 4psi then pushed it to 10psi and a noticeable difference in power felt compared to the ct9.
but.... the turbo cut out around 6.2k rpm as with the ct9 around 5.5-5.8k and spooled alittle slower.
to me it felt as the power band was shifted higher in the rpm range. wasnt impressed
a ct12 has been tested by me and for what its worth dont bother unless the turbo is free. lol
I brought a tdo4L turbo and plan to put it on. see how that works out.
