whats the point?? really? making something that you can buy already? all that effort.the likes of apexi power fc will out do anthing you can make by fucking round with a stock ecu, and plenty of places can tune it.
why why why...lol

if thats what you wanna do tho dude then carry on.... good luck;)

the features the stock ecu has are much better then the likes of pfc etc. For example you can expand the stock map and becasue eveyrthing is happeing in the stock ecu the signals etc will also be faster. There are gtr's running on stock r32 ecus with excess of 700bhp and hondas running turbos with over 400bhp. There is a reason for this as the stock ecu is better and faster then most piggybacks and standalones.

interesting thread this, i know people with gti-r's with mappable stock ecu's and had one myself also, but none of them have ever run 100%, wether thats down to the mapper of just the design of how they do it i dont know. i agree in theory it should be better tuning the car from the source ie the ecu directly BUT youve gotta think greddy/hks/apexi have spent alot of time in the development of getting their piggybacks ie emanage/power-fc to work properly AND be reliable, where as these diy ecu's havent really gone through much testing. i know id rather spend my money on a ecu made by a reputable company so i can have faith the likelyhood of something going wrong is minemal...

Its the same deal with the mr2 ECU's. There is only one revision, i think its rev 2 that has been figured out so its remmapable. Not sure why the others didnt happen aswell.

HardcoreEP can comment on this better than anyone.

There are serious issues 'cracking' the standard Toyota ECU.

if thats the case then, those board would need to be replicated first. The only way that can be done is to buy an ecu with one fitted. Don't suppose any has dead ecu with the daughterboard lol?

i have a mines ecu but its not completely dead yet the car drives but u can only drive slow below 2.5k rpm wiv no boost fueling issues i fink

im sure toyota ecus have been cracked before ive read about an mr2 tubby ecu being remapped that was handling quite alot of boost

E.L PROTOTYPES over here in the states did brake the code he was really tied in with toyota and the TRD department he would ask you for your specs on your vehicle and he would tailor your maps to your specs. he would start with a new motherboard but he didnt use any piggybacks or sister boards non of that but i was pricey it was going for 900.00 usd for that job. he's no longer around that i know of.. e-manage or apex fc or full stand=alone is your best bet

When you are done with it can you send it my way? I'm sure we could sort something out.
Would give me an insight on whats involved and start working around the encryption they are supposed to have (reverse engineer it).

I know thw mk1 4age can be done, I was trying to get a hold of one but any ecu from the starlets era that ahs been chip[ped will shed some light really. I have been doing heavy amounts of research the past few days but keep adding your coments and opinions as someone out there will know something.

I think youd struggle to get any joy by doing that.. After all they would lose money if someone did because no1 would buy their units then :p

guys don't seem to understand the whole idea behind trying to map a stock ecu
an aftermarket ecu will almost NEVER be better than a remapable stock on because,
i can assure you as much money as hks have spent developing the fcon and whats not it is a drop in the bucket to the amount spent developing a stock ecu by toyota

take the hondata systems for example, all stock ecus that are made remappable, and some of the best tuning systems you can get for honda

The problem with the stock ecu is that although the chip will flash its how are you going to do it, toyota have 'in built' a diagnostic to the ecu but no way of flashing the chip like latter obd2 cars, nor is it as simple as picking map id's out of hex files like scoobs and evo's that are based around an eprom chip 'look up table'
It is very do-able but would take an awful amount of free time up if there were enough people into reverse engineering.

As for the plus side of things, if you look what ive done for both scoobs and evos on the stock ecu the list of things available is endless

im sure if jam cracked it they didnt give a how-to to mines zep etc... so i guess they all did there homework! and found a way...
