database errors and slow load times

Hi everyone,

You may have noticed some of the dreaded "vbulletin database error" messages and at peak times might notice the site is loading slower than usual.

This is due to a surge in traffic which is seasonal, as the nights get darker earlier people tend to jump online :)

We did anticipate this and have been working towards a server upgrade although the migration is taking a little longer than planned, it should be complete soon.

This migration will not be like the last time, we will be running dual servers for the duration of the change over period and so the entire change should be transparent to endusers.

This migration will take us off our current dedicated server and on to a massively powerful virtual dedicated platform. Should we need more resources in the future it will simply be a matter of telling our host to increase memory, storage, processing power or bandwidth and it can be increased without delay to meet our needs.

There are exciting projects in the pipeline that will need this extra processing power and bandwidth which we are already getting to work on.

Just for those of you who like numbers (you dyno queens)... our server runs at a constant delivery throughput of 1Mbit a second all day long. At peak times this jumps significantly but that is our typical.

Last month we transferred 170GB of traffic to our forum viewers... thats an average of 5.8GB a day! or 241MB per hour 24 hours a day and this month is even busier.

I will keep you up to date as the server migration goes ahead and we expect to have a faster, error free user experience once complete.

Regards,

Dylan
