Engine rebuild 3.8 to 4.1

Something a bit different!

My 911 has been a lovely car to live with for the past few years but unfortunately it started to use some oil and soot up the passenger side exhaust tips which is never a good sign and pointed to bore scoring. The engines in the 997 carerra S (3.8) are well known for this issue and so as I clocked up decent mileage on it I was not that surprised.

I drove on to the ferry and off the other side and left it with Hartech in Bolton a few weeks ago and expect to have it back in the not too distant future with a fresh rebuild and bored out to 4.1

That's the NA. It starts life at 355bhp but should be closer to 400 when I get it back with a decent lift in torque.

The turbo is 3.6 and has a fairly bulletproof engine but they have shot up in price, especially manual gearbox versions.

Stuff like that always put me off ownership as I don't know enough about them. Still a cracking driving machine, bet you're looking forward to getting her back :)

Has been really easy to work on so far. Have done all the suspension work, alternator, starter etc and it's been a breeze to work on.

Engine rebuild is something I'd leave up to those who know

Can't wait to get it back for sure.

Got her back a few weeks ago and still running it in.
Over the first few hundred miles the clutch started sticking halfway and when I bled it there was some air in there. Drove it after bleeding and again a few hundred miles later same thing...

The slave cylinder was replaced while the engine was out and the clutch etc was all replaced so unlikely to be that end. I ordered a new master cylinder and installed it (pig of a job trying to squeeze upside-down in to the footwell) and bled again. Seems to be holding strong now at last.

The power delivery is very consistent across the rev range now compared to how it was in stock form. I always seemed to be changing gears to keep it in the power band but it now seems to have great torque from low revs. Small increase in displacement with some tuning and it has made quite a noticeable difference.

PS: While I was doing the master cylinder I noticed that cap for the fluid reservoir was not sealing correctly. I dont know if this could have been introducing air or causing some other issue with the clutch but I ordered a new cap. MAybe that was the issue and not the master cylinder at all?!?
