Ep82 Brake upgrade

Morning lads,

As above, can anyone reccommend decent brake upgrade for a street driven GT?
Its been on my to do list for a while, but after a near miss yesterday evening with a crazy driver that nearly wrote my car off, it got me thinking again.
Would a set of uprated discs and pads suffice or would I be better off with a levin/gt4 setup instead maybe?

Thanks for any input

Stock brakes in good condition should be plenty good enough for street. Stick some uprated pads in if your running more power than stock.
Good condition calipers and making sure they are well bled with fresh fluid will make a big difference.

Another thing to consider is tyres. If they sent great or at the correct pressure, you could have the best brake in the world but your tyre grip will let you down and increase your stopping distance dramatically..

I have st185 calipers on one of mine and they are fine. It's a good cheapish upgrade.

100% recommended ebc grooved discs combined with yellowstuff pads.

As mentioned above calipers are in good condition with good set of tyres and another important thing if ur running coilovers, the camber adjustment plays a big role when breaking trust me av been there shocking:eek:

Twinpot st185 calipers and Corsa c discs I have here, I've been told they worked very well round our local track by starlet legends :)

Can you give me a list and price of what I'd need to do this?

I was contemplating trying out some ferodo ds2500 pads? I had mintex discs and pads on my old GT and found them to be pretty dyer.
I'm running uniroyal Rainsports - due to the constant crap weather up North - which have always seemed spot. What psi do you run Duncan?
The rear calipers were stripped and rebuilt not so long with new fluid. But tbh, the fronts haven't been touched for a good while. Could be an idea to strip them down, give them a clean and fit new discs and uprated pads in the first instance. Or would you go straight for the st185 upgrade?

Do you use that setup for street Fiz? I remember a few of the guys on Ukstarlet Forum, back in the day saying that the drilled and grove discs we'rent the best as they to crack after a few heat cycles?
lol its scary ain't it when that happens  .It was some crazy guy in a new golf that cut me up and I missed hitting him by inches literallyo_O
The cars had a full geo setup with everything dailed in and handles really well. Just find that the brakes aren't the best imo.

A good refurbished set are around 150£ from memory and the discs I think where 20£. Same as the starlet disc as far as I can tell but half the price :) then you can get fancy grooved etc handy enough
Must ask the mates what's lying about them

The one you posted is a single pot but should be a great upgrade 2. If I remember correctly you can run upto 275mm discs on a st202 carrier. I do not know much about the st way but do know a bit more about the levin conversion.

levin setup:
With the corsa disc you also need some quality spigot rings to get the center bore down from 60.1 to 54.1(mk1 gt is this if I remember correctly, 55.1 for later gen). The corsa discs are a perfect match for the levin twin pots with corresponding carrier maxing it out at 260mm with the disc thickness being 24mm.

I've had yellow stuff with ebc discs and braided lines since I purchased it. Braking always has been fine, but more brake power is always welcome hence upgrading to the levin setup maybe even try a 4 pot setup. Never experienced a turbo starlet with standard setup.

Thanks for this.
@goldenvtr suggested this setup also.

I have the Toyota levin twin pot calipers on my Gt.

What I used was Toyota levin twin pot calipers, e10 carriers ( e11 carrier will work to But only the efe engine Not the vvti one as different. I used Toyota yaris diesel disc but the 2008 Toyota mr2 are the same. To rebuild the calipers I got the rebuild kits on ebay think the company is called big red and the kit is for a toyota carina gti. The calipers is a but to big on the sides of the carriers so you will have to spend some time with a bench grinder other then that they are a direct fit.
