EP85 4WD gearbox ratios?

I'm after the complete spec of the EP85 box.

Yes I know they're listed here http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40146 as C50F (4wd box)

1st 3.545
2nd 1.904
3rd 1.310
4th 0.969
5th 0.815

Final drive:3.722

But these can't be right, I'd be near 100% sure they're not correct cause this would give the 4WD the same top speed as a GT or Glanza and our 4WD boys top out near 130mph and not 155mph as far as I know.

Something I have noticed, both the EP82 GT and EP85 autos use the same crown wheel and both the EP91 V and EP95 autos use the same crown wheel, but the manuals are different. Also the crown wheel from the EP85 manual is different to the crown wheel from the EP95, so those specs above could be for the C50F from the EP95 and not the EP85?

Mine is hitting just over 140 at 7.8k, that on 15" wheel with 195-45's, there def no where near the Gt ratios tho:mad:

Interesting, could well be the EP95 box then.

Would love to see the ratios for the EP85.

GAZ would u have a rough idea what speeds your acheiving in each gear at around 7200rpm? Or 7800rpm if u don't know the stock limit speeds.

Extremely short 1st! I remember Ted saying to me that 1st is very very short.

I'll have to do some searching on google to see what I can come up with.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to just use the 2nd gear from the 4wd box in a normal Gt box, would make it ideal for 2nd gear launches

I will double check them in a bit, but the part numbers I've looked up for the gears from an EP85 are the same as an EP82 GT. That would suggest the EP85 has the same ratio's as a GT but with a 4.3 final drive.

The EP85 1st gear is very short, the difference between it and 2nd is quite a lot.

EP82 1st and 2nd is closer than a GT`s.

As far as I can figure out on the EP85 1st gear is the only one with a difference ratio to the EP82 box, the rest are shorter due to the final drive.

The EP85 appears to have the same crown wheel and pinoin as the 4AGE Levin.

My mistake, wasn't looking at the PNC of the part number for 1st gear, so was actually looking at the part number for 1st gear syncro. School boy error. :haha:

That does seem to be the case. The part numbers vary depending on year, but my best guess would be:

EP85 1st gear = EP85 / EP95
EP85 2nd gear = EP82 GT / EP85 / EP91 V / EP95
EP85 3rd gear = EP82 GT / EP85 / EP95
EP85 4th gear = EP82 GT / EP85
EP85 5th gear = EP82 GT / EP85 / EP91 V / EP95

Need to hoke out the EP85 figures from the brochure to confirm the ratios. Will update asap.

does anyone know the finnal drive of the rear diff in a ep95 vs ep85??

According to the EPC, both the EP85 and EP95 use a 41 tooth crown and a 18 tooth pinion which gives a 2.277 FGR.

EP85 09/1990-01/1996 and EP95 01/1996-01/1999 use gear set 41201-19615 and EP95 01/1999-07/1999 use gear set 41201-19616, but the ratio's are the same.

Same part number for a EL54 and EL55 Corolla and a few other JDM models.

Do these sound about right?

Models 1速 1st Gear 2速 2 speed 3速 3 speed 4速 4-speed 5速 5-speed Final Final
EP85 4WD (C50F + CF1A) 3.545 1.904 1.392 0.969 0.815 4.312

Ive got 5 different sets of ratios for each type of c-series box out there, they are mis-quoted all over the net. Jay is the only one to say, where he got the figures, and that they are straight out of old sales leaflets. Wouldnt bother trusting google as the wrong ratios are as useful as no ratios. Use gearboxman's spreadsheet to checkout each set of ratios you get.

Did we ever find out if all these c52 c56 c151 are stamped on the boxes anywhere?

170mph in fifth at 7800rpm with 195.45.15 using that first set of ratios. And 145mph using TO82's 4.312 final drive figure.
