In the proccess of putting together a forged 5e. Im a bit apprehensive about packing the relief valve with a washer, because as some of you may know too much oil pressure can cause just as much damage as not enough.
Some of you guys who have packed a 5e relief valve with a washe , what sort of oil pressure are you getting when stone cold on idle? Also how many people on here havent bothered to pack the valve with a washer?

I put a washer there - i hadnt got my pressure gauge wired up but everything has been bang on - done 1000 miles on it aswell and it got mapped to 1.4 bar on a td04 no problems :)

never got it dynoed but it felt pretty fast - i put a 1 mm thick washer of equal diameter to the circlip matey - hope that helps - hope to have a pressure gauge in again soon lol

I also fired one in there.

Why take the risk was the way I saw it. I don't run an oil pressure guage, one less thing to worry about at the track, if she runs low your buggered anyway.

Was 50/50 on the washer, but didnt use one in the end, not got an oil pressure gauge either, my 5e is on about 3000 miles now, with 1 track day and alot of other hammerings!

6 BAR COLD = 1500RPM
3.5 BAR WARM IDLE = 1100RPM

1.5mm washer in mine

Hope this helps

5e's minimum oil pressure Warm Idle is 4.7psi according to the Toyota Manufacturers

Ask what the Jamaican and mates use as they been doing it for years. Krissy oil pressure when warm sounds a bit to high. Remember its all about oil flow more than pressure

Okay 3.5 bar @ 70degrees centigrade is more accurate at 80-9 It would probably drop down to 2bar ish as it did in the summer when the oil cooler wasn't plumbed in but now the oil cooler is plumbed in with a thermo, it rarely gets over 75ish fella so the oil pressures are fine to be fair.

Plus my Idle sits slightly high due to the rock hard engine mounts usually around 1100rpm ish normally a tad over which will always increase pressure of course.

Also coupled to this I'm using a 10w50 oil which again will make the pressure a little higher.

I'm just about to build my 5e also is there a difference between the 4e and 5e relief Valve? I have both was just thinking is the 4e one better so I don't need to use the washer or just use the 5e one with the washer???

aahhh,

@70 degrees thats about right then lol,

you did say warm idle though.

my oil pressure is about the same, and i use 10w50 to :) mines a 4e though with no washer in the relief valve.

Holy shet.

After reading this and the figures people are writing, how low of oil pressure are you people using, must be something wrong. My 4G63 (race engine) has 100psi oil pressure on revs. And people here bare talking only like 15psi ish, fark me.
