Forged engine low compression on cylinder 4 high crank pressure and smoking can someone advise on warranty and why

If it's done a piston or ring that quickly of say it wasn't/hasn't been mapped properly. What set up/engine management are you running? Any fuelling mods?

I agree, sounds more mapping related or something else went wrong externally to cause the failure like failing fuel pump etc

Running dastek unichip q ecu, recent new fuel pump fpr ect td04 whilst running in at 0.5 bar, forged with pec rods and wossner pistons ect injectors were only 80% duty when mapped

very poor, the chances are it was mapped incorrect,

you can run td04 0.5bar on standard ecu and standard engine and it will last a lot longer.

did you have it mapped and built at the same place, or mapped by a reputable tuner after build yourself or elsewhere?

Does not really matter if it was "run in"
One injector could be slightly bad :( How does the spark plug electrode look on cylinder 4?
And 1.6bar with a unichip is not the best idea.
Fuel used on 1.6 bar?

She was mapped by a very reputable tuner who is very professional he talked me through everything as he was doing it ect engine was built by local engine builder but when I got engine back I thought there was a lot of crank pressure going into catch tank but thought it must be ok as just been re- built

Plugs look perfect, what's wrong with 1.6 bar on unichip? Running 99ron

At that power levels you want a good management to hold the engine together :)
Can you see any detonation on nr 4 plug?
How bad is nr 4? Maybe it needs some more seating :)
Is the engine builder reputable? Was the rebuild done with a rebore and pistons to match?
Any idea if the piston to wall clearances were logged?

Do you mind asking who was the Tuner??? And have you got the graph?

I agree.

Also which mapper did you use as i see your a local lad?

Does the company who built the engine have previous experience in doing so?

after 3000 miles i would very much doubt it was a poor engine build.

if an engine was to fail it would do so in the first 500 miles, or at least certainly show signs of something not right.

if the compression is low in 1 cylinder this would sound more like detonation, only way to tell is to strip the engine down.

you could try shoving a bore scope down the spark plug hole to see if you can see any thing. an injector flow test would hurt also.

Detonation can be seen on the spark plug. It will look like tiny peppering on the porcelain and sometimes tiny pieces of the piston will actually be on it :( :D
Compression test results please :D

yeah you need to strip it down.

I agree sx_turbo, if it ran fine for 3k then its probably not an engine build fault. if it had alot of crank case pressure from the breathers (catch can), burnt oil or was tappy then it probably was the engine build. A forged engine if built properly shouldn't sound or behave any differently to a stock engine.

I recently had an engine come back to me after it had failed. I striped it down infront of the customer to find this, Which confirms it was down to mapping. It was done by a "professional" and quite big name in the tuning world and then find out the car was mapped without using det cans, and also tuned using the customers own ondash lambda sensor which he said to me was never calibrated on its inital start up.

This is one example of extremely bad mapping :(

3sgte forged piston by the way

I had a toy tuning bottom end I bought off someone local
It done 5500 road miles with a fanny driver I had it round knockhill and it was knocking its brains due to shit build quality !!! Within 3 laps !!!

Never ever buy a second hand engine and trust it to work perfectly! ALWAYS open it up!
Tim what was the customers first reaction?? He probably thought you did some weird sh!t with the build!? :p
