Gearbox synchros?

Selectors and bushes are perfect and well lubricated.
When warmed up it is perfect and it's fine 90% of the time when cold.

Tbh, I feel it would be better with a short shifter as it improved my other starlets gearchange feel. Not those bullshit hypersport things though!

I'm also using redline oil and I have cycled the oil twice in a thousand miles so it's got no shit in it ;)

As for oil I use to have problem with 2nd gear crunch from cold on my old box, tried tested two different gear oil, comma worked better than Miller oil bit strange.

I used that comma oil as my "flushing" oil when I first fitted the box.
I ran it for a few 100 miles then drained it out and put the redline stuff in. Another couple of 100 miles later my rear main was leaking so ended up draining the redline stuff out again and put yet more fresh redline in again. That's probably a total of £120 worth of oil I've used on that box and barely done 1000 miles :(

I love the comma oils, never had any issues with it, Phil ran it in his GTs so its good enough for the daily. Bought comma to service the Dina too :)

I've always found the comma stuff good. I quite like tripleqx stuff from ecp too.

As I had spent so much on the box I wanted to put the best stuff in it ;)

@dac69er how did you get on with this? Did it last? If not any other options that have become available. 2nd gear is on its way out need a way to fix this box. Thanks

It's not got any worse. 3rd gear isn't great when cold, but once the oil is circulating and there is a bit of temperature in everything it's ok.

Personally I wouldn't bother doing it if it's only a slight notchiness when going into gear. If it's proper crunchy, then it's worth a shot.

how is the rebuild going so far? i will be doing this in the next month or so as when my car is in neutral with clutch out there is a rattling sound that i suspect is the input shaft bearing, and at the same time my third gear is getting very crunchy.

my problem is that my car was manually converted in japan before it was imported to canada in 2019, so i dont know if it has c52 or c56, ID workz site has and synchro under one listing titled "starlet gt turbo and glanza" implying the parts will work for both cars (c52 and c56) if this is the case would you say i am safe to use these parts regardless of what transmission my car actually has?

i am beginning to think the difference in sizes is based on what transmission the car originally came out of, so maybe a corolla with a c56 could have different size synchro then the c series found in glanzas for example.

The rebuild is fine. Again, not perfect, but ok.

Input shaft can cause a rattle sound, I've also had the centre of the clutch crack and that caused a rattle.

I can't help much with your predicament. It's harder still as you aren't 100% sure which box you have.
I believe the synchros are more or less the same, but it's been a while since I looked into this and I was focussing on the box in mine which was an early c52 box.
