GT Heater Issue

Pull the centre console and heater control panel, handbrake surround and you should have easy enough access to inspect them.
Have you tried the first thing to mind yet, swapping the actual control panel for a known working one bud ?

Not tried that to be honest mate. Could be an idea though. I just assumed they were all working as when I tested them with the ignition off (if i remember correctly) I could hear the heater mechanism working.

There's two types of heater system - manual (operated by rods and cables) and electronic (wiring, motors and rods).

Any idea with yours is?

If the slider is just blue and red it should be the simple type, if it has numbers then it's fancy climatronic.

Finally got around to doing this.
@Jay i can see the motors moving on mine - I have the posh heater controls lol- but the rods seem to be in tact.
Could it be the actual heater control unit that is causing the issue i.e when I select heat for face, nothing comes out of the centre heater outlets.

Yeah done that already.
I'm getting heat in to the car, but heats only coming through the vents on either side.
So say if I press face, or legs on the centre console, nothing happens. Heat only comes out of the vents on either side, not to legs for example.
I removed the resistor and gave that a good clean also, but still no luck.

Normal control cable in my starbo and electronic in thee other starbo its so different.
Can you see the arms, rods move from underneath when you press heater buttons.

I have the climate control centre heater unit.
I can definitely see the servo moving when I slide from hot to cold.. Everything seems in tact.
So air is actually blowing but only to the vents on either side. No air for centre vent, legs or windscreen.
Strange

I stripped more of the dash back and it seems like the heater flap is stuck shut...as seen in the pics... Not the best, sorry.

Does anyone know if there is a servo connected to the heater flap?

There should (from memory) be a cable attached there.

That flap is the directional control for where the air goes so it would make sense given your issue.

Thanks Jay. Could it have fallen off behind the dash or in to the box maybe? Where would the other side of the cable go i.e. one side around the brass looking end on the flap but where would the other end attach to?

On the manual version it's a cable that leads to the main control panel.

On the climatronic version it should be a rod that heads to a servo motor.

Been a while since I had a dashboard out though!

I've been putting it off, but I may just rip the dash out to have a closer look at it, to see if the rod has come off somewhere.

@Jay I got in the case with this today and ripped the dash out. Brought back memories/nightmares of the last time I removed one with a mate of mine on my old one, remove a leaking matrix.
As you said Jay, there's a rod on the on thr bottom left of the vent. The vent is solid shut. I managed to pry it open a bit but it seems seized.
I connected the heater centre module back up and tried to test the heaters with tue dash out but they won't turn on. Guessing one of the plugs thats on the dash is needed robget the heaters to turn on?

The car turns over but does not fire up also.
Again is this due to one of the electric plugs I removed?

Cheers for any input.

Ps - do you happen to have a spare working heater box at all?
Thanks

To get the car to operate everything needs plugged in. You should see what happens when you get a few of the plugs wrong (I had a helper mess a few things up on a rebuild once lol). That'll be why your heater control isn't working also.

Please do not compare Toyota servos to VAG crap - ours don't usually fail like that. Can you remove the operating rod and manually move the flap by hand?

LOL wrong Link above.
This is what I meant to share, not the VAG one:

I've nearly managed to remove the servo....its right next to the clutch peddle and quite awkward to get to. The operating rods move slightly but not much at all.

It looked like there was a missing rod also maybe.
I've drained the coolant and removed the matrix hoses under the bonnet also. I can't seem to get the heater box/martrix to pull through the wire wall to remove it completely.

I did wonder how exactly buying a shitbox vag would help :D
Lol

I managed to remove the servo... Stripped it down to have a closer look. The motor spins freely when removed but seems to be jammed once its fitted back together with the cogs etc.
