I'm new to turbo'd cars so don't really know anything about them but learning slowly. What exactly is overdrive and how does it work? Yeah kinda worked out how to change them manually, much better. is the gearbox oil easy to change? Also there are 2 buttons above the gearstick that say "manu" and "power" + a small red one, what are these for? Lastly how do you leave reputation? Cheers

You will find a lot of useful info out there!

The rep button would be on the left side under the name!

The easiest way to change the gearbox fluid is to get a vacuum pump and pump out the fluid (using the dipstick hole) and then measure exactly how much fluid you've pumped out and put a new one instead - once changed - repeat after some time let's say a month or 2, as you don't change the whole fluid but it will get mixed up with an old one and by doing it again you will change 75% of the fluid! So better to do it pretty often say once a year - depending on the mileage!

Yet again thanks for all the help. Servicing it in the next few weeks so was just checking that millers 10W40 fully synthetic oil would be ok to use? Bottom end and upto about 120ish it has the corsa beat hands down but top end the corsa would go on and do 140+ not a big issue as i very rarely do over 70 in it. Here are some better pictures of it, love it to bits compared to the corsa!

Found this on opie oils

"OPIE OIL & FILTER SERVICE PACK
Customization Text: Our service pack for your PETROL TOYOTA STARLET GT TURBO 1298cc (1990 - 1994) consists of 4 litres of Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 High Performance, Fully Synthetic, Engine Oil in 4x 1 litres and an OIL FILTER: UFI spin-on oil filter 23.263.00 single"

Would this be ok? The corsa would be jealous, she got run on the cheapest semi-synth oil I could find!

Yeah, that's a good oil mate! And the filter aint too bad either, but I would personally either change these cheap filters every month and top up 200 ml of oil after the change, or put Original Toyota or TRD filters and change them every 3-4 months with oil -) What corsa is it? what reg? just a standard corsa????

Where would be the best place to get a genuine toyota one? What is the service interval on them anyway i'm lead to believe its about 5-6k miles? A 2.0 corsa redtop (C20XE), S reg 1999 and had a few mods like full exhaust system, 4-2-1 manifold, powercap, air filter and was apparently cammed but i'm not sure it was.

This is a gearbox thread mate, you should post it in to appropriate section!!! 3K miles is the oil interval change, Original Toyota is a Shell Helix Oil!

If you are just renewing the oil you won't get that much out, a lot is retained inside the box and convertor. Best way to do it is to measure how much you drain out and that should give you an idea of how much to drop in again. You can fine tune the level afterwards.

As a guideline I changed my fluid last week and used 4.5 litres.

Hope that helps,

Jay
