Help with PnP ECU

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you have experienced any problems with PnP ECUs? The reason I ask is because I've got a JAM ECU for and EP82 and as soon as it was plugged in and the car was started, the MIL light was on, it struggled to start and when it did the idle was very lumpy and there was hardly any throttle response. Every time gas was pressed, the engine would struggle, revs would drop and eventually it'd turn itself off.

Not sure whether this is a common problem or if its happened to anyone before but I'm at a loss on where to start and definitely need someone to shed a bit of light on this matter.

Also I tried to do a diagnostics check since the management light didn't go off, the light didn't blink at all so not sure if thats working either.

When you plug them in for the first time, I believe your supposed to let them idle for around 15 mins, don't touch the throttle or anything.

wont make any difference. sounds like its a duff ecu.

try the standard ecu back on just to make sure.

Standard ECU was put on almost immediately after seeing all these issues. Worked perfectly normal again. Haven't tried on the other ECU since. Reckon its been messed around with?

Check the pins are not corroded on the ECU sockets, after that you need to break the seals and open it up.

Never had issues like that before so it sounds like something is not right mate.

What is the Toyota part number on the ECU and what model year of GT are you putting it into. Someone recently had an issue with the pinouts between mk1 and mk2/3 GT.

its a mk3 quadlight that i'm putting it into. The label on the front of the ECU has faded but I can make out the ending of 10040.

Doesn't seem to be any corrosion from what I can see but have given it a light clean up nonetheless. I have opened it up but not sure what to look for and don't really wanna start touching the circuitboards incase i break something or moisture messes something up etc...

Just checked it out now mate. Is it definitely the number 7 and 15 pins on connector 2 that need swapping around? Coz from that PDF pin 15 on connector 2 seems to be something to do with A/C. Didn't think that would have any effect really.....

Really appreciate all the help guys. From what I can see in the other thread, I'm guessing after swapping pinout 15 onto 7 and putting the wire from pinout 12 onto 15 should sort the problem. Anyone know what happens to the wire which was originally for pinout 7 then? Or does it just end up hanging around?

This is really strange that this issue hasn't appeared before ?????
my jam ecu was bought off a lad who used it on his 1994 quad light and im now using it on my mk1. It has the mk1 part numbers on the ecu though :-S

Do you not have to reset the ECU after fitting the new unit?

I remember I sold my old SARD unit from the celica to a guy who bolted it straight onto his and had the issues you have experienced. I instructed him to reset the ECU (pull the fuse is the best way), leave for 10 or so minutes then put the fuse back in and fire it up.

Sorted the problem.

But if its been removed its the same as resetting it as the power has still been disconnected from it? I cant see it making any difference!?
