Hesitation issues and bad warm start. Who's taking care of their own car?

Hey friends. I currently work on my first Starlet project and I am hoping for some input of someone who work on his own cars and knows them well.
I already fixed a bunch of stuff, got a full rebuild order on the way for forged pistons and rebuild head and so on. Compression is still good, just had major smoking which I thought where valve seals but it turned out to be the exhaust side turbo seal.

I installed a CT9/CT12 hybrid yesterday and that was a good change. However, I have two annoying issues I am trying to track down to the core:
#1 Extreme hesitation under full boost. It went completely away after installing the new turbo at the first test drive, drove amazing, only to start again when it was warm after 5 min. Idles great, cruises great, with the old turbo it would be when going to full boost but not before (with boost levels going almost to 1 bar at times so I expected it to be some fuel cut for safety of the engine. I removed a cheap ass boost controlled that was installed when installing the new turbo and now the boost is back to 0.5 bar which I guess is stock boost.

#2 The other annoying issue is hard start when hot. Since I installed turbo and a new distributor cap and wires it also doesn't start as good when cold and when it finally turns on cold, when applying throttle is first drops the rpm until running a few seconds. Idles good though. I was expecting it to be a fuel pressure issue. so I installed a pressure regulator and set it to 2.5bar which I was reading online was the ideal stock pressure but no change. I expect the started to be dirty/getting bad and a new one is on the way but I'm still not convinced its starter related. Maybe timing / sensors just a guess.

I have a feeling the 2 might even be related. The check engine also came on but I thought that was related to the burned oil of the turbo, wont go off with the new turbo though.

Another detail that might help is that it smokes quite heavy from the breather (oil catch can) and when putting my hand at the exhaust the gasses are quite hot.
There is also a (probably o2 sensor) that had a bad wire and is probably bad, which is installed at the down pipe, but I cant find any replacement looking for it online. I guess this could send bad signals to the ECU and cause the hesitation. Whats that sensor called, so I can look it up?

Any input would be very welcome! THANK YOU

Welcome to the site, certainly sounds like a great deal of fun you are having.

First things first, what fault code(s) are you seeing? It might give an indication as to what's going on just.

Thanks Jay! I haven't been able to figure out yet if this car has an LED to check that without connecting anything like in my Z32. Is it possible to see error codes with an integrated LED?
