How do you remove your driveshafts???

Just wondered what different ways people use to remove the driveshafts from the box on their starlets?

I use a hammer and a drift, it seems to work reasonably well for me, but I do always worry about the side forces I am putting on things, especially when the shaft is a bit tight.

What are people's tools and methods and how successful are they?

Hammer and chisel for me too.

I have encountered ones that refuse to budge and had to use the dreaded prying approach - you gotta be careful with that method so only when the needs must.

I have a few long 90 degree pry bars I use, had a micra fight me years ago ended up the hammer and drift approach
Have had some come with a good tug too, replaced the circlips on them and sorted that out

From the box side (transmission cups), a thick shaft of wood and an iron man sledge hammer :) with impact to the trans cups. The wood helps protect the cups with firm but soft love taps.. and most times you will get away without having to replace the cup seals.. but since you are here already, you're better off just doing it at this point.

From the outboard CVJ side, a slide hammer with a 5-kilo load, or if the joints are knackered then I just angle-grind the joint off enough to allow me hammer the remaining shreds of the joint off.

They do come off fairly easily though and shouldn't be much trouble. I can't speak for the UK folk with snow, sleet and all that rusty goodness.. :p ..but over here in the tropics, we remain dry, dusty and crusty all year round.. well, mostly.

I make a point to service the joints with a scrub-down and clean, fresh lube and general checks each time I replace the boots at the onset of any tears or cracks. I've had a single set of CVJs run for 60k+ clicks this way believe it or not..
