How To Remove Stubborn Sump!

mybe when you rebuild might be worth getting it on the rollers to check your fueling

yeah.....well once i rebuild it i'll be putting it back down to standard boost. Will probably put the old FPR back on aswell just until i have done the running in side of things anyway. Then get the fueling sorted out later on again

thats what happens i'm afraid when you trick a map sensor managed car with a variable resistor (fcd) to bypass fuel cut. upping the fuel pressure helps a little bit but its never perfect and eventually does that.

Indeed, although running rich should really aid in preventing this - but it is the weakest area of the 4EFTE. If only they shoved in some forged pistons from the factory!

For the cost of an Emanage, it should always be the preference when running more than stock boost.

Any way of knowing when your ringlands are likely to be dying other than a physical inspection..? Excessive blow-by is a symptom for sure, any others..?

To be fair though.......it might not of been me that even did that damage anyway.....i did buy the car with a knocking bottom end and even back then there was loads of blow by gasses. I just probably didnt help it out atall by upping the boost really lol. Stupid i know but i could never of attempted at getting the engine rebuilt before cos it was my only car at the time and had to use it for work. But now i own another car after the gearbox on my starlet died and so the rebuild can now commence :)

A compression test does not really show cracked ringlands......when i did a compression test on my car 3 of my cylinders were fine apart from one which was slightly lower than the rest. So may have to rule that out, another symptom is excessive oil use. Had to top my oil up every other week cos it was burning it so fast, and cos of all the blow by gasses contaminating your oil. Fresh oil will turn black very quickly

@ Sirius75: How did your gearbox die..?

Its quite funny actually. Cos it didnt actually die, after removing my gearbox and bottom end from my starlet yesterday. I find that my clutch had actually shattered into pieces. The plates in the middle with the springs in, the bit where the spline on the gearbox goes through, had actually came away from the outer part where the friction material is. So my gearbox is fine and i got a new clutch with my car when i bought it so its a win win situation lol

What clutch was that..? You should tell us the brand so that we are wary of it.. or did you have an abusive relationship with your clutch..? :) lol

It was just a standard one. All i was doing was driving down a dual carriage way 60-70mph not sure which i was closer too but that dont matter...lol and i heard this sort of, slipping belt noise so let off the accelerator and it went away. Put my foot back on and it came back, got to the slip road to come off the dual carriage way. And as soon as i went to pull away BANG!, and lucky for me my mate was down the road from where i was so i got towed home lol
