Idle problem

You might have noticed that the PCV valve is repaired with epoxy.
Once the auto mechanic climbed on the engine during some repair work and he broke the valve.
Since then I am repairing it with glue :).

If it is not glued, then engine RPM goes insane high.

I want to ask you another question about this Idle Control Valve which is also discussed in this thread...
https://www.toyotagtturbo.com/commu...dle-control-valve-removal-and-cleaning.59034/
What happens, if this thing does not work?

This 5efe manual should cover the basics, I don't have a scanned 4efe version and 4efte version is too big to attach (and is all in Japanese).

Whenever I search for this IDLE CONTROL VALVE,
Google always shows me IAC valve which is right under Throttle Body.

The problem is, I got Waxstat IAC valve and it has no connector or wiring out from it. It is a plain mechanical thing and three rubber pipes are connected to it. One is for air/vacuum and other two are coolant IN/OUT.

Now I don't know if my Waxstat IAC is healthy or sick.

Thanks a bunch. I will study it for any basic knowledge I am missing.

The PCV is a one-way valve that let's pressure out of the engine and feeds it into the intake manifold.

If its broken you should replace it (toyota is the first port of call) and the rubber grommet around it.

The RPM will go up if the intake is open to air so you could block that to keep it normal. Don't block the port on the cam cover though as the engine still needs to breathe.

The waxstat in the throttle body can breakdown with age. It will lead to high rpm from what I've seen. You could disable it if its giving issues but will lose functionality in colder weather.

They are now connected. The engine is breathing through that Cam cover piping to intake.
The RPM is very very low at cold start. (Engine wants to stall and Vibrating).
But when the engine reaches to its operating temp, the RPM shoots to 1100.

I don't think that 5e manual is as detailed as the paper 4efe manual i have in the garage but I can grab a few pics later to show how to test the waxstat and coolant temp sender.

It would be worth checking for fault codes if you haven't already.

You are exactly right bro.
I remember, Once I removed that IAC from TB and found that someone put epoxy in its hole. At that time, I was confused. Now I know that it is done because the Waxstat is not working.

Can I replace this Old Timer IAC with the one which has connector wiring?

That will be so nice if I get a glimpse of the original manual.

Actually this engine swapped by the previous owner. My car is Toyota Corolla 1986 (EE-80).
I don't think there is any check connector attached somewhere.

The standard 4efe and 4efte are both old skool IAC. I've not replaced them with something more modern but can remember seeing a kit for the mk1 mr2 aw11 that was an upgrade.

Might be worth pursuing as these cars are getting on a bit.

It was imported to Pakistan and registered in March 2000.
I don't know in which country she spent those previous 14 years after her birth.
She is with me since 3rd December, 2013.

Currently I am stuck in Karachi for a year.
The old parts are readily available in Peshawar (my hometown ) which is near the Afghanistan border.
All vehicle used spare parts comes from AFG. Which are extremely cheap as compared to ebay or other expensive online shopping websites.

Oh my Good Lord.

For a moment I couldn't connect to this website and suddenly I thought JAY has kicked me off. (because I introduced myself as a Pakistani).

I was really disappointed. But then all of a sudden I reconnected back.

I am glad that you didn't do that.
Cheers and peace to all.

We dont care about religion or race or anything like that bud :) you must love old Toyotas but :)
I love seeing what other folks are up too and where they are in the world :) with the amount off old Toyotas that end up over your way you probably pick something up.
If you know the part numbers go on to toyodiy.com and you can cross reference the number to see what other Toyotas used the same part, maybe give you a wider range where you are bubba :)

Hi @SKINY .
I am really glad to know that I am dealing with the real "old Toyota" lovers, having no Race/Color/Religion/Region prejudices. We have one passion in common, which is stronger than all other traits.

I could gather the relevant part numbers for my car's engine and find them on online shopping website but I can't go further than that.

A particular part will cost, say for 50 bucks. Which is no big deal for the people of the 1st world countries.
But in my case, one has to multiply those 50 bucks into 160, which makes 8000 for a person living in 3rd world country. Now those 8000 comprises one third of my monthly income. (My monthly income is roughly 24000).

So, I will better be sticking to the second hand working parts.
For example, I got a serpentine timing belt (Mitsubishi brand in a mint condition) for 8$.
If I buy it from ebay, then God help me. I can't afford. :)

@SKINY

I visited the website you mentioned, toyodiy.com
The parts are too expensive for me. For instance, Engine main relay price is 91$ and some Cents (Excluding shipment charges) ;)

Where as I can get the same OEM made Relay for only 1$.

It's a useful site, yea some bits are quite expensive but at least you can look up part numbers and see what else 2nd hand near you is available :)
