Ignition timing issues.

Hi guy. I was searching all over the forum but I couldn't find the answer to my question. So I have a corolla e11 4efte. I have idle and fuel consumption issues. My idle is around 1400 or more and I thought checking my ignition timing. My timing in check mode is 10° bdc. Without check mode is around 16°, think that scared me cause it's freshly rebuild engine. Any ideas? Also my idle in check mode doesn't drop. Shouldn't drop?

Hi there, it's hard to comment too much with it being a conversion but on the run of the mill 4EFTE the RPM would be much lower so it could be throwing your set up off a bit.

When you bridge the pins the RPM should drop - if it doesn't that would normally tell me that the throttle position sender isn't calibrated. Might be your first port of call.

Here's a link to the set up (images don't work but you should be able to figure it out):

The really high idle is a bit of a worry. I've seen a few throttle bodies suffer from waxstat failure. If you stick a finger over the air port in the throttle body and the RPM returns to normal this may explain what is going on there.

Keep us posted!

just to add to what Jay stated, which i agree with as a starting point....i have a question, is your high idle stable or fluctuating/erratic??
