Link ECUs

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what the best way is to install a link ecu into an ep82 GT?

I know you can buy a plug and play harness, which I'm guessing would be an easier solution. However can you hardwire them in your existing oem loom or are there any better alternatives?

Thanks

ps @Stu- I remember you being the link Guru :)

The p n p harness for all they are really are an absolute scam for price of them I think
The mate has made a few for his gt-four using a few old ECUs and loom ends for the connections
Near sure link do the looms with just the ECU end so you can hardwire it in, not a big job really if your handy with wire diagrams :)

Maate I haaate/am crap with wiring :D. I know basics lol. Tuner as messed me around for mapping my emanage, so just looking into standalone options again.

I saw an old post on UKS Forum about someone doing that i.e. using an old ecu and loom to fit the link into. Wasn't certain of how it all worked though.
Agreed £350 ....for a p n p harness is quite steep.

Are you near Fensport at all, they are using the ECU master now flat out.
1 of the techs, Andy has just done a mk1 Yaris 2zzge using 1 :)
Id say there GR-FOUR Yaris is getting 1 aswell
Pity that me221 turned to shit, it looked like it had good potential

I spoke to them a few months back. They have an amazing rep and all, but the price they quoted me to supply fit and map was nuts.

Yeah I had high hopes for the ME. I could still stick with the emanage, its just finding someone reliable who isn't too far to map it.

Emanage Ultimate with plug and play harness. Pretty much all ready to be remapped.....fitted 3 bar map sensor and harness and afr harness from my wideband o2.

is it possible to use a fields extension harness to make the link ecu plug and play?
similar to how its done with the EMU?..just some suggestions off the top of my head without knowing the specifics

i absolutely despise cutting/splicing the oem harness,,,it can sometimes lead to electrical issues later on if not done properly

Hail Gorgan.
That was the first thing that sprung to mind i.e whether or not my extension harness would work with the link ecu.
But from what I can gather it wont work.

Thankfully, I have found another tuner who has a lot of experience with emu, and happy to tune it.
My existing tuner - who initially agreed to map the car- really put me off the emu as he pretty much said its garbage and too buggy.. compared to other modern standalones. Therefore I started to look in to other alternatives again, hence me asking about the link.

But I've decided to just stick with the emu for the time being as yes its old tech, but its been tried and tested on these cars and should cover all of my needs:).

You used to be able to buy the ecu plugs and sockets off rs or farnell. I purchased one, so I have the details if anyone is interested in making their own pnp harness or extension looms.

I would have to find it first though........

Definitely be good for future reference Duncan. As Skiny said, we're pretty much over a barrel with the companies when it comes to them making a pnp harness and pulling prices out of the sky.

I've done alot of searching about for every plug for these cars. If I'm correct they are the same as the ep91 NA:

The oem ecu socket for the starlet ep91(male):

the 16 pin plug(female):

The 26 pin socket(female):

oem pin small female(32 pins needed) 175265-1

Oem pins big female(by the looks of it you need 8, but you can only order 100 anyways so amount shouldn't be important)

175269-1(awg 16–20)

Claymore on ukso used this to make a PnP loom for the ep91 NA.

EDIT:

The pins I supplied in the first case are the wrong ones for the plug. Now edited to the correct ones supplied TE and tested by Claymore.

Top man. Saves me digging out what I have.

The parts aren't very expensive, it's just a case of having the soldering skills to make the adapters up.

Nice one :)
I was quoted 1150£ for a link fitted and mapped, the mapping was 350, cant mind the model of Link but it was capable of anti-lag and launch control

You wouldn't even need different colour wire either so it could work out cheap enough compared
You can get wire in any colour combo tho or use a doner loom from a breaker :)

The benefits of standardization
Yup nearly everything on these are linked to TE connectors.
