Hello all,

while I was in Hong Kong, I met a glanza owner who had brake upgrades.
He bought the car from japan with upgrade already on the car, so not much info about it. he said h was told those were mitsubishi VRM calipers

so here are pics of front and rear grooved rotors with mistu VRM calippers (from what I was told)

yeah Mark, I don't think it would be uge improvement in term of performance on rear axle but it might be an easier setup to maintain ? Rotors seem to be standard, with added grooves. I would be interested to find any rear brake upgrade really. the fact our rotor and hub is just one piece doesn't help much in this task :(

yep rory, I've been thinking a lot about those rear brakes. so it was a good suprise to discover this setup

Braking improvement will come from an increase in piston size, so regardless of the rear being single piston, if its a large enough difference I'd go for it. There was a custom set up done here locally using brembo rotors and bike calipers. The downside was a loss of stock handbrakes. Owner had to convert to hydraulic.

my glanza will be converted to hydraulic handbrake very soon, so it is not realy a prob. My main worry is the rotor itself as it does hub job aswell (wheel bearing goes on it). so what is the direction to go ? cut the disc from the hub and find a rotor that would fit ? but then the rear would have a larger stance cause of disc thickness over the custom hub. I also heard from a friend he has seen Impreza rear brakes on a starlet GT in malaysia. but have no other info on that :(

i too have been lookin for ages for a simple rear brake upgrade...something that actually can stop the car when you pull the handbrake up...whether its parked or rolling

it seems like a simple conversion is out the window,,,,it may well be a custom job

a few cars have read discs and embedded drum brakes as well on the rear......best of both worlds

hydraulic brakes are ok for a rally car,,,but not sure i'd want them on an everyday car

i'd be more curious to know if the front vrm mitsu brakes as they are claimed are single- or twin-pot..? if single, then i'd rather keep my starlet brakes on, unless it's a VERY BIG single-pot brake setup.. :D

i heard that the 20 valve levin also carries a slightly bigger single pot front caliper which some people work on the starlet....but i'm not sure how it works out fitting and stopping wise

PS--i'm not referring to the 20 valve levin twin pot set up

Hi all, I accidentally found this thread from google. I am from Hong Kong and own a Corolla AE92.
using VRM caliper and disc for upgrade to corolla and starlet are very common in Hong Kong as they are much cheaper than other aftermarket products.
there is a slight modification on the caliper mounting holes on the hub since corolla and starlet have a smaller distance between the two caliper mounting holes, so it is required to make the holes larger to fit the bigger vrm caliper. the disc are also different with 5 lug pattern on vrm disc and 4 holes on these 2 toyota models.
the disc diameter is 275mm and it is a twin piston caliper, extremely heavy...
