Mpg figures.

Time for a request from myself.

Im not really after a discussion on this as to how, or why. rather just real world facts on setups and fuel usage over a months running. But please feel free to add your opinion.

Things to list: time of year (month), engine setup and boost pressure with ems employed and if mapped by ho. Both 4e and 5e veriants. OEM equipment and n/a

Im looking into engine efficiency levels across the Toyota e series engine.

The reason: Im comparing these older cars against the new more efficient cars of today.
(Which levels I'm trying to hit using the 4efe)
Again many thanks for your reply. I do feel this topic could benefit all.

Maybe not much use but the GT did 450KM on a full 38L tank to Japfest
The Rep did the same journey 40L 300ML

There was a lot off "spirited driving" involved so it's still good. From memory the GT was 32mpg and the Rep 38

GT spec, decat, 2.5" straight through into a small power flow backbox, cone filter, hi/lo boost bypassed, .8 bar dynoed at 148.8HP

Rep spec, decat, straight through 2" system into a small scorpion backbox, rolla manifold and throttle body, cone filter. Dynoed at 86.6HP
:)

So many different cars and set ups but most achieved around 350 kms to a tank give or take. These were all manual EP82, various turbos, tuning and mostly 4E but a 5E thrown in for good measure.

The autobox GT loses about 10% due to weight and nature. It's a fairly small tank on the EP82 so weather didn't have the same summer/winter difference compared to the larger stuff I've driven (V6's for example).

Would like to think technology should bring the lowly E series up to scratch in terms of efficiency. The stock tune does err on the rich side of things so you should be able to make improvements for sure.

I go by Smiles Per Gallon in the Caldina and my face hurts every dam time :D have yet to work it out for it but I'd say 25MPG
The ST185 3sgte could get 30 if drove like a vicar, the 3sge celica was high 30s ish
:)

Thanks experience counts for alot.

Because of the torque out of the 5e and 5efte depending on turbo there will be a good 10mpg difference on the 4e 4efte, also gearbox dependent on both the 4e and 5e.
I've run the c160, c161, c54, and starlet na box with very different weekly mpg figures so monthly mpg will be very different the c54 was the worst because of the large gear gaps needing more throttle to react to rpm drop and hit target speed, the c160 out of the bzr has a nice 6th overdrive gear droping the rpm down on the motorway, whilst the c161 you can Access 6th at 40mph droping the rpm down. using the corolla inlet and na cams, low rpm torque is amazing so power at this low 6th gear rpm is great and surprisingly you can accelerate still nice. I've calculated the torque out put is on par if not better at low to mid rpm than the 5e engine. also the smaller turbos like the ct9 will hit boost pressure (chatter) just in stop start traffic this will have an impact on fuel delivery at that rpm. Impacting worsening mpg efficiency.
Even tyre width increases or reduces rolling road resistance\friction.

Seasonal change in temperature also will affect mpg in warmer weather the mpg will increase by around as much as 5mpg a week due to the fact hot air is less dense, and better fuel vapourisation will be happening (indirect batch firing injection\carb setups). Most if not all rolling road tunes will not account for this at all. Just look at the difference in temperature between the coldest months and hottest months, upto 25degC.

Mpg tells a very different story about how the car is tuned\setup if it's very low then the engine or tune is not very efficient this could be for many reasons, fueling for safety\setup quick, setup for strip/track and used on the roads. Either way this will show with the mpg\engine efficiency.
Using excess fuel also impacts oil grade and oil degradation. The higher the excess\safer tune the quicker oil will degrade.
Engine with poor mpg will get hot because some of the excess fuel being used and/or ignition retard mainly to keep it safe will now produce heat energy instead of kenetic energy.
The modern engines use alot more sensors running faster ems allowing closer talerences.
Threw winter with the modified oil delivery system on this ep91 I'm running, I was able to use 5w30 oil grade I've recorded the mpg figures. I'm not quite at a temperature point yet to run 5w30 grade past the month of may yet, but by next year I should be able to.
I'm starting to get close to 40mpg figures on a basic ems system with not a massive amount spent applying normal everyday driving and the figures are on a increase coming into summer thow impacted by the thicker oil grade I'm using threw summer. Just my top level power\rpm to tune for 220+hp and very best efficiency.

Mine sucks lol hole in tank roughly 40ish miles to a tenner that's most I can top up at moment .
New tank hopefully should be ready within a week.
Someone used long screws:confused: waiting for new bolts.

Ouch, that tank looks rotten.
Do you live near the coast (salt water)
I'm going to have to seal my underside soon.

I used to get 32mpg city with my ct9 hybrid 4efte tercel. Used premium and the 32mpg would be the occasional boosting. If I was flooring the car all day it would be 27-28mpg. Using 93 octane.

Long run in the glanza will see nearly 40mpg, Otherwise mid 30’s. My Reflet which is an auto see’s 40+ all the time no matter how you drive it. Would probs be better if it was manual.

They are definitely excellent on fuel :) cheaper to run the GT than the shitbox corsa(rip)for me for both insurance and fuel lol

So far the Toyota fueling map/overall setup is looking to be where it should be with around 3years of post production testing happening at the time of the ep80 - ep95. I'm very impressed with the ep95 looking into the gearset on the auto it's a 3speed box I haven't found much information on ratios as yet.
Hopefully we can get some figures coming in on bigger turbo, higher pressure setups.
