Afternoon people
I haven't been on here in ages
Over the last 10 years or so I've been sticking with the gti platform
First one i had was a lovely 2007 VRS which has the MK5 GTI engine. This car is surprisingly good and fun to drive. Huge boot space and plenty of stock power @200bhp
After i sold this i wanted to stick with the GTI range, so i bought a 2010 MK6, again this was a very decent car - I got Vland led front and rear lights for it which lift the front and rear up to a more modern look. Pricy but worth doing on both ends. MK6 has a very good stock exhaust so a RAM air filter kit made the car sound lovely. I got this remapped here in Dublin years ago, it was down on power from factory and made 190bhp on its first dyno run, second run it made 250bhp then the last bit of tweaking he got it to 263bhp.
My current car the MK7 is a pretty good machine. Very comfortable but a tiny boot and with two kids this sometimes can be an issue. This car caused me a few headaches but its been good for quite some time so no complaints. The water pump failed and then the head gasket so got the head and associated work all done. Its remapped now from a very knowledgeable place - It was expensive but its worth it. I have 3 switchable maps from a sequence of buttons on the steering wheel, 301bhp, 260bhp and a limp mode setting.
I just leave it at 300bhp, plus it has 480 Nm torque - Also got the stop start deactivated and the traction control button can be utilised for extra torque in the high torque map setting, it pulls very very well in all gears and it would take something special to be keeping up with you with 3rd or 4th planted to the ground...
I do miss the old 4EFTE's i had, they are very rare now and cant be picked up for two grand anymore lol
