Looking at picking up a gt, o my issue is a slight miss thinking that's down to fouled plugs but the other issue is there us a loud clicking sound plus a car shuddering crunch when trying to turn corners at low speeds. Owner says it's because it has a limited slip but I'm not too sure any advice or help is muchly appreciated

i had a slight misfire and it was the King lead from the coil to the dizzy, could also be the cap or arm or ignitor or coil or leads/plugs :) clicking sounds like CV joints need done but ive no idea about the crunchy noise buddy

Cv. joints all good, 5heyve just been done but it feels like a blown diff (the wheel trying to skip/skid)

If you get it for the right price it can be fixed right? Just obviously may be less than idea when buying a new car.

just what i was thinking, could always pick a cheap NA box up and fix the lsd box in time, just be sure as your mates exactly what way its sold and price your both happy with :)

Hey dude,

A common characteristic of an aftermarket diff is noise. What you are describing (feels like the wheels are going to fall off at low turning speeds) sounds just like the concerns everyone has after fitting them.

There's a few factors that can reduce the noise level. Find out what brand and spec it is first for reference then look on youtube for comparison videos, you will soon work out if it's abnormal. The transmission oil can affect volume so that's worth researching and the preload can be adjusted too by shimming the diff. A lot of people don't bother too much on this point. They just buy it and pop it in the housing. If you know any gearbox specialists locally they could be better equipped to assist.

As the Skig said try to rule out CV joints too. They are a common issue on these wagons so worth ruling out.

Hope that helps,

Jay

Thanks heaps, got another drive in it today and got told by a whole bunch of people a bunch of things, one of the things that I was told (keeping in mind my knowledge on technical matters is fairly limited) that they have a trans axle not a differential so to speak. He wants $6000 AUD for it, little bit of rust and a whole bunch of mods (failover unknown brand at the moment, adjustable bov, haltek ECU, 1000cc injectors, upgraded turbo) I'm thinking I'm gonna get it and just figure it out. But let me know what you think

I'll be on here again for sure!

Sounds like you have already been bitten by the bug mate

Trans axle isn't a term we hear often, but just so as you know the diff is inside the gearbox and the driveshafts are both external/separate.

Good luck!

Skig lol:p

Loads of information on here if you do buy it mate :)
To check CV joints put the steering in full lock and drive away slowly say 5-10mph then same for other way, both mine are clicking like mad currently, price per side is around 30£ and a couple of hours to change them
Good to see the forum has reached you waaay down there lol :)
