I got a fine for my number plate. im from northern ireland. my cars reg plate is english as it came from england. as far as i am aware the 3d font and size etc conforms and is legal in england and is legal but apparently is not legal in NI. So i want to know if my cars reg plate is english and legal there, whose laws do i have to conform to? do i have to change my plate or can i argue this. My plate font is like the second plate down.

Hi mate,

I used to work in an auto accessories store and can tell you that the plate you have is fine for UK roads (providing the letters & spaces are ok). I would have thought that NI came under the UK blanket for these rules.

If your plate has the British Standards Approval stamp (think it's BSAU or BSUA followed by a series of numbers) the law could have got it wrong.

The (deep breath) autonumerologist cannot put that mark on illegally spaced plates from what I'm aware. They are pretty tight on it in the dealership I work in.
