Quad Light Bulb Upgrade

Morning lads,
One of my outer/dipped bulbs has gone in my GT.
I was thinking it maybe a good time to replace all the bulbs anyway, as they re not the brightest.
Am I right in thinking that the full beam/inner bulbs are HB4 and the outer/dipped bulbs are HB3?
I was thinking about getting some Osram bulbs?

Thanks for any info.

i've ran osram upgraded bulbs (night breaker laser/unlimited) in the glanza and various vehicles over the years...they were a modest upgrade over stock in the past when technology was at that stage back then.

personally, i'd not use them anymore unless your country has certain bulb/light laws/regulations which you must follow.

i've since moved on to LED bulbs,,, and in the starlet you need decent ones to really see any difference---in my opinion, the glanza headlights could have been designed to reflect light a bit better, but maybe that's what happens with age, maybe they were great in 1998 :D ,,,i dont know if a new set would be any better

i will recommend two brands of LED bulbs that i've tried on my glanza with good results, and i've tried a few lolol...DDM Tuning Saber Pro 50w and Hikari Ultra
they will cost a few dollars, but they give very decent light output....i'd also suggest cleaning/polishing your headlight lenses and possibly adjusting if needed

now, i'm not certain with respect to the ep82 quad lights, but maybe the information can aid you in making a decision in general

The factory bulbs are 20 quid each compared to a set of night breakers, excellent bulbs. I've a set of hid in the GT dipped and they are quite good

Thanks for the info guys.
@gorganl2000 I did think about leds, but was unsure about which ones to go for.

@SKINY Where did you get your night breakers from and did you notice a big difference over stock?

the Osram halogen bulbs i used (night breaker laser and unlimted) were slightly brighter and whiter than the stock bulbs...i'd estimate 5%/10% brighter and 5%/10% whiter...but nothing close to the brightness and whiteness of LEDs or HIDs.

the whiter a halogen bulb is, the more brightness/lumens you lose, as they put a blue tint on the halogen bulbs to increase the "white effect", BUT if reduces the light/brightness/lumens output significantly...also, upgraded halogen bulbs like Osram, Sylvania, Philips, PIAA, etc, may not to last as long as stock halogen bulbs.

in my opinion you are better off with LEDs or HIDs....i prefer LEDs for simplicity, variety, longevity, cost effectiveness

Have you got 55w or 100w LEDs?

the DDM Tuning Saber Pro 50w are as the name says (50w per bulb)
the Hikari Ultra were around 23watts per bulb if i remember correctly

both worked well in the ep91...and i suspect any other brand LEDs will, as there is no ecu bulb outage detection mechanism.

https://www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/you can assess some brands which may be cheaper and more readily available to your region

i'd avoid anything with high watts or 100w per bulb, it could melt your old wiring harness

PS in my newer vehicle, i had to buy DDM tunig saber pro 50W...as the other lower wattage LEDs throw a code on the dashboard.
the ECU thinks that a bulb is blown due to the lower wattage/current draw.
