Hello all

Been doing a search online to find some decent websites/books/resources on engine tuning and was wondering if you folks have any recommendations?

I am a complete noob when it comes to tuning so the more comprehensive the book/website the better really!

Any recommendations welcome

The hillier books are good to understand the fundsmentals which is where you should start off at.

Others more inclined for tuning would be those by David Vizard, Graham Bell, Tom Monroe.

Or pay £9000 a year to go to uni like me lol.

As always Adam that was extremely helpful as I am a complete noob with no professional training or schooling Ill start with a few of the Hillier's (just how many are there???lol) had a quick google and they look pretty good so thanks allot for them mate really appreciate it, should make a nice xmas present to myself :p

When my family can afford (or I can get a job that pays well enough(not gona happen)) I will :p

Jesus lad no wonder you broke the starlet 9k a year is madness!

I have this Graham Bell book, its very good, explains things simply and goes deep as well. At the price these are fetching, I think I will look after it a little better!!!!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forced-Indu...17843&sr=8-1&keywords=forced+induction+tuning

WOW...100+gbp?I hope it helps tune the car for me for that price!

On a serious note thank you for the recommendation ill bookmark all of them and go through over the winter!

No problem mate :)
Theres quite a few hilliers which kinda vary in levels and they do electronics books as well.

Lucky enough I got in when the fees were only £3500, certainly wouldn't pay for it now!

Just to add to this, those looking to understand more about cylinder heads and save you from burning a hole in your wallet and ending up with less power I would highly recommend a read of this book.

Thanks again Adam I can see why you added the cylinder head one probably some of the most contradicting information I have heard so far about cars stems from the cylinder head lol

very interesting stuff :D

just orderd 4 books so let the study begin!

You can be my study buddy :p

I've recieved and read a couple of books and here is a small review of them.

for all those out there that have built an engine i certainly advise to get this book. it's a great read and made me feel like a complete moron after i was done reading it :D
I thought i knew a few things about building an engine and my engine is still running fine but this book goes soooo much deeper into building a race spec engine that it just blew my mind!

this one is a great source of information when you are interested in building and flowing the head.
has a lot of Do's and Don'ts and the book is based as a general guide for all sorts of heads

never thought there was so much to learn about a single engine part... the cams.. explains a lot about what cam does what, pro's and con's of certain cams and how to correctly fit and adjust them.

and i got 2 books about engine management. they have a lot of overlap in the information they give.
the books really dive into mapping the engine propperly. even taking into account the time it takes for an injector to open and to close and use that information to correct the fuel management! it's mind boggeling detailed and it's not "light" reading. but very very usefull if you want to roadtune a car yourself and want to know what you are doing besides "more fuel makes my tailgate black"
