Rolling the arches

Hey,

Well i've always had a problem with my rear arches rubbing. Recently noticed that my lowering springs on the rear had been fitted the wrong way round. Now we have put them on ourselves the right way its alot better but every now and then big hole or dip in road my my (mostly rear drivers side) arch will rub.

Comparing the arches on mine to the arches on bens gt his arches have deffo been rolled. So im thinking about getting my done too?

Is there any bad points of doing this? Anything i need to know?

Also if i do this it means i could put the OHLINS suspension we have on the rear. But at the moment it drops the car way too low.

Thanks in advance :)

Kelly do you have an adjustable panhard rod? As you probably already know, that could stop the arch catching.

I rolled mine myself but it is not the way you want to do yours. I used a hammer and a few other tools, they have come out great but as I tapped the metal back the paint cracked so you don't wanna do that. I painted my car days later so it didn't matter to me.

Toby has an arch rolling rool which he lends out, might be worth asking him.

Sorry i forgot to mention that i have panhard rod yes thats adjustable and has been set up :)

My mate at bodyshop said he would do it this was ages ago though when i first enquired about it. He did mention that there is a chance the paint may flake but he said obviously if it does he will sort it. Im just worried at the thought of takin parts of the car away :( especially if there is a special tool to use which i bet some bodyshops dont have! Lol

I *think* the special tools goes on to the hub, and helps bend the metal back. That's the way I would want mine done. Some people will just get the angle grinder out and cut it off, I wouldn't want that done on mine.

so i shouldn't let anyone touch it without the proper tool then?

No I mean I wouldn't let anyone near it with an angle grinder :D

EDIT

Sorry I read your post wrong, yeah thats right I would only allow someone to do it with the proper tool :)

if its done correctly Kelly they will heat the metal/paint up 1st which allows the paint to stretch a little so it doesn't crack. If you take the plastic arch off you'll see the joins around the wheel arch which if cut would compromise the bodywork this is why the pros' bend it or roll it instead of just grinding it off. Both my car and zoe's scrub over bumps and we had a qoute of 65quid per car to rol the arches so if your mate will do it then leap at the chance.

Kelly, you can rent them, rent one and a heat gun = you laughin.

yes, ben + machinary + ben needing to be careful = me laughing

actually there is more chance of me crying!

But i shall look into it if the bodyshop deffo doesnt have the correct tool!

After the arch has been rolled does it need protecting where u have just taken bits away?

hey hey!!!

Pem tyres im sure have the correct tools, i let them roll my arches on my fez, and all was fine, no cracking etc.

may be worth giving them a bell - circa £30 per arch i think.

Dont let ben near it - he has ikea furniture to play with lol

Did someone say heatgun? I wouldn't dare! A hairdryer will do perfectly (on low boost lol) a heatgun will burn the feck out of the paint!
