so would you still need to use the clutch to go up and down the gears,

if not are there any real advantages of having this bud?

Yes you do - the advantage is that it would still be quicker through the gears, as you physically just push or pull the gear lever a short distance, not that the Original gear spacing is vast

Yes you will still have to use the clutch Enzo. Advantages ... less misshifting and for those who arent quick with the hand it will improve than shift time.

I'm mainly getting it for the downshifting as its prooving to be a pain in these bumpy roads we have here in malta.

Would be definately interested in this, but would like to see some feedback from more then one person using it on a standard gearbox.

Just to point out, if your changing that quick all the time, the syncromesh's will be gubbed shortly after.

Its a cracking idea on a track car, but my opinion is, it will be useless on a road car.

And im still trying to figure out how it will work...........

Cheers for the link, but it still doesnt answer my Q.
Our gearboxes work with cables, to pull and push, and move the selectors side to side.

How does it work, if there is no side to side movement?

I just realised that after reading it  Bah, the precise details probably wouldn't be released seeing as there are so many Patents on said shifters, but it'll be an interior mechanism in the shifter itself, which would directly connect to the shifter assembly in the car, and would electronically transfer the push-pull movement of the "Sequential Shifter" to the required movement necessary for the shifter via solenoids of some sort...(i.e. according to what gear the sequential shifter is, every gear change will correlate to a specific signal which will move the shifter rod in the required pattern, so these shifters would most likely be have to made specific to a car's shift pattern)

Well, that's what I would figure

So erm one question, how do you pop the sucker in reverse :p Some sort of button to press to stop accidental shifts into reverse or what?

There is side to side movement. What the Ikeya Formula shifter does is convert the H pattern movement into a a up/down movement. Its like a little ratchet mechanism, think of a mechanical clock or time piece. Once it spins its clicks and moves something. Which is why I asked about six-speed. The mechanism has to be calibrated to the shift pattern. 1st gear > click > 2nd gear > click > click > 3rd > click > fourth > click > click > 5th

Daniel, will you adopt me? I need your money :D Best of luck with the shifter chap, should make a good difference for the hill climb as I know how hard it is to downshift with a non-compliant suspension :( I don't race, but still, same jist :p

lol @ Riko. If you'd be a mate of mine you'd know I just work for my car and food lol. Thank god I still live with my parents lol. Next on the list after the shifter is the Dogbox ;) but will need sponsors to get that hehe. At the moment going to try something else on the car which should help me quite a bit speed wise hehe :D
