Should I Change My Release Bearing?

So, My starlet is having the regular symptoms of a bad clutch release bearing. Its only sometimes but I get a slight whirring/ chatter at idle when the clutch is out. However My transmission shifts perfectly smooth with no grinding and clutch feels fine. Should I go about changing it? I'm in the US and its my daily driver so it would end up being a lengthy and expensive process. Additionally finding a shop that wants to touch my ep82 is hard, as its a foreign thing they are scared to crack open. Will it lead to bigger issues down the road if it goes unadressed?

If they can do a Toyota Tercel, they can do a starlet, they are the same mechanically.

It's a very simple job to do if you are a garage with a ramp and the a set of tools.
It's a half a day job, so you should be able to take it to the garage in the morning and pick it up in the evening the same day.

A Whirring/chatter noise, could be a damaged input shaft bearing, but I would definitely start with replacing the clutch and release bearing. The clutch is a standard MR2 part also, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting that in the US either.

If you need details on part numbers etc, we can help out so you get the right parts.

My clutch Is still the oem, with 55k miles and shows no signs of wear. Not sure if it could be bad, as Im quite easy on the car. Would the Mr2 release bearing Be a direct fit? if so Could I get that part #? cheers!

Shouldn't be too much of an undertaking for a good workshop, a few hours does them on the floor so a ramp would make life a lot easier.

Here's the parts catalogue for reference:

Probably good to bookmark that site for future part hunting, it's helped me out countless times :)

As Duncan says you would be as well preparing the clutch, bearing and the crankshaft oil seal replacement whilst the box is off as you never know what you will find going on in there. The clutches are shared amongst other models which means there's plenty of choice in the aftermarket if the dealer parts are expensive.
