Post-track check over reveals the exhaust has split and the flexis have finally given up too.

Time for some new metal

Theres two trains of thought on it. Keeping the heat in the exhaust helps the hot gases exit but some manifolds can crack due to hot spots or defects. Rare to find a manufacturer who will warrant one thats been wrapped.

The big factor I've seen at track is heat. Really wanted to remove as much as I could from the engine bay so that made my decision pretty easy. Will just keep an eye on the header in case there's an issue.

If you are playing with heat wrap remember to wear long sleeves, gloves and a mask. The fibres are lethal, forgot how much I hated the stuff :p

Oh and discovered a hole on the rear subframe. Did a rough patch up to keep the MOT man at bay. Stone-chipped the hell out of the panel to keep the rust off and hide my handiwork.

Excuse the horrendous welding, I haven't a clue what I'm doing with this thing.

Hunt is on for a fresh subframe..

header wrap on an n/a car, whats the lowdown on that? any benefits?

this looks a hell of a lot more than just distracted btw aha
Yea if you read up on it there are as many say don't as do lol, some say it speeds up the cracking process if it's lurking but no idea or experience with it myself

with the exhaust of the kseries near the firewall it seems we may be forced to wrap them, as amazing as they are to look at

Most stainless just discolours and looks pants after a while. I figured this cheap stuff would look a bit crap after a few weeks so didn't mind covering it.

Will need to give it a good hard run but engine bay temps seem a lot lower than before :)

the exhaust system upgrade looks great and seems to run well based on your preports...so a win win
i'm sure you will get the hang of the welding once you do more of it and learn from your experiences with distance/heat/angles/voltage settings/etc...you can practice sometimes on old pieces of metal

wishing you a speedy and full recovery
