Squeaky/chirpy belts????

My GT has this odd squeak issue for as long as I remember. The sound is a bit like 2 balloons rubbing together. It only happens once the car has warmed up.

I have changed cambelt and tensioners, water Pump (twice), water pump pulley (twice), alternator, crank pulley, both aux belts (twice).

My other GTs don't do It, just this one.

Any ideas????

What area off the bay is it coming from bud ? Try nipping the belts up a bit ?

its coming from the belt side of the engine. when cold it is perfect. i have tried running the belts overly tight and as lose as i dare.
it may be a little better when the belts are lose, but there isnt much in it.

my other 2 starlets are fine, so i dont understand why this one is so damn squeaky!?!?

Maybe not a belt issue then hmm
If you have a stethoscope you could listen to the ps pump and alternator to see if it's a bearing squeak.
My black Yaris has an alternator squeak, it was seized but I had it freed up by the auto spark in work but he said it's still tight and could be noisy and probably seize again if I didn't keep using it,had to free it up when I pulled the Yaris out a few months ago

i have tried a stethosope, but it wasnt very conclusive.

i rebuilt the alternator as it did originally have a pretty bad squeak from it when cold. it then developed the squeak i have now so i put another rebuilt alternator in and it made no difference :( both had all new bearings and everything.

How tight are the belts when you put them on..?
Can you turn them 90 degrees in between the pulleys at the longest section of the belt..?
Also, are they decent quality belts or some cheap and cheerful rubber bands mashed together in a shed somewhere then sold to you..? :p

I've tried over loose and over tight and everything in between. I have 2 other starlets that are fine.
I actually used a belt tension gauge and matched it to one of my other starlets and it make No difference.

Belts are decent. Originals were solid auto i tjink, but only about 5 years old and not many miles on them. I replaced with dayco and then a set of gates.
None were any better than the others :(

I replaced the cambelt with a gates kit.
I'm out of ideas as I can't think of what else to change!!!!

If you can get a can of penetration oil (WD40), try spray each of the general bearing areas one after the other and see if the squeak goes away.. and at what point it does. I'd suggest you do this with the engine off as we want you to keep all your fingers.. or if you are a ninja, you can try this with the engine running. Just ensure you use the can with the extension tube at the nozzle.

If this doesn't work, HECK, get a water spray bottle and try get the belt wet as the engine runs to see if that brings about any change.
Troubleshooting stuff like this can really get frustrating I know..

Tried water on it and that made no difference apart from spraying me!

Can't be alternator bearings as both alternators had new bearings.

Only other bearing would be on the power steering pump. I guess it Could be that, but doesn't sound like it's coming from there. I tried wd40 on it and it made no difference.

Only thing I thought of trying is removing both aux belts and see if it stops then!

just a thought, but could any of the belts (cam/timing, ps/ac, alternator) be rubbing against the timing belt cover at some point?
I did consider that. I have removed and refitted it. I checked and can't see any rubbing. It fits fine and isn't damaged so shouldn't be an issue.

I am tempted to remove it and try running without, just to be able to discount it.

Since we are troubleshooting and haven't found anything yet, this is an acceptable path that you have chosen to take young Jedi.. :)

Still have this issue. Everything is new/rebuilt and I still have the issue!!!!

I have tried a crank pulley spacer just in case the pulley was rubbing a bit on the cambelt cover, bit that has made no difference!

I just don't understand why my other 2 4efte engines are fine, but this one refuses to be quiet!!!!

What condition is the contact surface on the pulley ?
Maybe rough it up a bit if your convinced its coming from there bud,
2nd option get the wd40 out lol :)

Av got similar issue need replace pulley and bottom cover it's warped catching.

With this Wd40 may be could change the radio frequency :p interference

I've tried 3 crankshaft pulleys including an n/a one. I have tried a pulley spacer and even tried running it without the cambelt cover to eliminate it. Nothing makes a difference.

What do you mean by the contact surface? As in the grooves in the pulley? I have given then a clean up. They all have some wear as are used, so could be that I guess. Wouldnt have thought all the pulleys I've tried would be the same though!?
