TERCEL1: A One Hit Wonder

Who in their right mind would pay $100 to test 'n' tune?

That was the offer put forth on Wednesday when Denys called
me at work. "You gotta come with us this Friday (my day off)
so you can put down another 11 second pass! You don't want
to be 'a one hit wonder' Al, come on!!!"

He has such a way of making you feel good about yourself... :irked:

(FYI Denys, the day I ran the 11.8, I also ran an 11.9 so you
really can't call me a 'one hit wonder' See HERE!)

I agreed to go but upon reflecting on it from then until I got
homr, I changed my mind... So I called and told him about my
change of heart... further incurring the old Denys annoyance,
"Whatever! You always do this Al, It's no surprise..."

On Thursday (my first of two days off) I stopped by to explain
why my change of heart... it was at THIS point that I found
out the the reason for the trip to the track was to see if they
could get Roger's car (set up by SRT) into the 10s... I was also
informed that if he ran a pair of 10s they'd be leaving so, it
wouldn't mean that I'd have to be there, the entire eight
hours (9a-5p) beating on my car (one of my concerns)

"Oh GREAT... $100 and if Roger makes two 10 sec passes
they'd all pull up stakes, go back to the shop, leaving me
either to go back with them OR leaving behind by myself...
Great incentive to shell out $100!"

There was ONE THING which made me change my mind (again)
and that was the fact that Joe (MD4e) was bringing his Tercel
(recently built and tuned at SRT) for initial testing 'n' tuning!

Arriving at SRT bright and early Friday morning I was quickly
tempted to change my mind AGAIN... apparently Joe had
forgotten to try out the slicks on his car... His plan was to use
spacers but because his wheel studs were those extra long
ones (to accommodate tuner lugs) they would not allow the
spacers he was going to use to gain clearance for the slicks to
work... Now, the reason for my wanting to go had evaporated.

Screw it... I'm going and that's that! :curse:

On the way to the track, Mo (SRT's CEO) stops to gas up the
truck which is towing the trailer with Roger's car inside) A
chance for a photo or two...

During this time, Joe came over and told me he felt bad things
worked out the way they did, "I guess I didn't do my
homework", he said. I really appreciated that gesture!

Mo gases up the truck (Smile Mo!)

...and we are soon on the road again... what a great
caravan... just the truck pulling a trailer and TERCEL1...

Actually it was better there was no convoy... better than having
3 or 4 other cars "racing" all the way down to the track... Not
my speed (no pun intended) It was hard enough keeping up
with Mo!

By the time we arrived at the track, I'd cooled down and was
focusing on proving that my 11 second pass from last season
was no fluke...

Below is my first time slip of the day (RUN#015) and hope it
proves that last year's 11 sec pass WAS NOT from 'a one hit wonder'!

...and if THAT weren't enough, I'm getting a bit better at the SMOKEY BURN OUT...

Here's a few more short videos of my 'day at the races'

;

I guess that's about it for this story... Roger went away having
run several 10 second passes (Personal BESTS, I'm sure) from
his hopped up Honda, driven by Denys (boostjunkie)

After a couple more passes (RUN#23 & #024), I decided to
pack it in for the day and move on down the road...

...at $12.50 per pass (not counting Denys' 2 passes) did I get
my money's worth.... Sure! Although not TERCEL1's best EVER
time, I did put it back into the 11s (proving to all who may
have had any doubts that TERCEL1 and I are NOT one hit wonders'!!
