Here's another installment for those of you who enjoy follow
the exploits of me and TERCEL1 as we go bumping along the
area's 1/4 miles...
There really hasn't been too much to smile about ever since the
larger turbo was installed by Denys at SRT... and even LESS to
smile about since he installed the cams and springs from
Wheeler's head... I though surely (and please don't call me
Shirley) it would simply be a matter of getting behind the
wheel of TERCEL1, with all its 290HP and rattling off run after
run of mid to low 12 second passes... but, not so!
Denys and others kept telling me that it'd take time to get
used to the car's new power so off I went, these past three
consecutive days, to area tracks in an attempt to "master the
beast"
Friday's 13 passes at Capitol Raceway netted me just two
passes in the very HIGH 12s... and while those two passes
yielded personal bests for THIS season, they where nowhere
near my all-time best of 12.7 of a couple years back (when
TERCEL1 was pushing nowhere near 290HP)!
Saturday's session at Capitol was rained out after just one
pass (13.237), run on my M/T slicks.
Today (Sunday) was MIR's scheduled "Import Revolution", the
whole purpose of taking a part of my vacation when I did, but
with 12 second passes (coming far and few between) plus the
questionable weather, I almost bagged the whole idea.
I left for the track in Southern Maryland at around 7:00 am and
at around 8:30 am, I'd payed my entry fee at staked out my
place in the pit area... another thing which was making me
anxious (along with my lackluster driving) was this burning
question:
Can I erect the newly purchased tent all by myself...?
Ya gotta take each little victory where ya can... :haha:
After a couple passes, I looked down at my gas gauge and
was shocked to be under a quarter of a tank of fuel! Not
wanting to leave the track area, I went over to 'gasoline alley'
and got 2 gallons of 103 octane race fuel...
The lady pumping the fuel told me that the real octane rating
is more like 99 and at $9.40 a gallon... Whew! By the way,
because TERCEL1 was tuned on 93 octane the extra octane
points did nothing for the car's performance.
Luis Corujo's wild Celica was on hand (That's SRT owner Mo
standing behind the pole) but Luis was fighting issues all day
long which he would not resolve on this day.

What's the old saying... "An idle mind is the devil's playground"?
After putting my 12.57 ET time on the windshield, I thought, "Oh,
what the heck" Props for SRT:
After double checking on the shop's name (DUH! I've only been
there a hundred times for my upgrades), I changed the rear
window to read: "Swift Racing Technologies" (plural)
The above shot was taken as I sat in the corner of the staging
apron awaiting a possible bi-run. Depending on how many cars
were in the ET Bracket class. ODD number and TERCEL1 gets a
bi-run into the money round, EVEN number and we get
lane choice.
Earlier while taking photos of some of the cars in the pits, I
shot a photo of this nice looking piece of iron:
It was this car which made the field EVEN so, I got lane choice
and handed my hat in Run#066 and sent me home...

been happier that I decided to come to today's
"Import Revolution" at MIR... The envelope please:
