The first time I raced up at Cecil County Dragway (it's about 70 miles NORTH of where I live) I
felt like I'd stepped back in time. Geez! This was one of the tracks I'd read about in Hot Rod
magazine, when I was a teenager, growing up in Western Massachusetts. So many great
memories.
Since I began drag racing back in July of 2005 with TERCEL4 and more recently with
TERCEL1, Cecil has always been very good to me... except the time I had to have TERCEL4
towed home with a broken axle, or the time my transmission prevented me from going down
the track (I was able to drive it home though) or the time fueling issues, causing a couple piston
ring lands to fail!
Well, early last week (keeping an eye on the long range WXR forecast), I requested time off
from work for this Saturday to get in one more day of racing before a long Winter's nap.
I got under way this morning at around 7:00 am.
Main Street in Laurel looks surreal at that early hour...
...but, that's the route I take for my pre-race breakfast meal at Mickey Dees:
Then, it's back on the road again... driving I-95 North, up through Baltimore...
By the way, on November 1st, it appears all tolls in the state of Maryland have increased
by $1.00 (Crap!!!)
On a personal note: The name of one of my co-workers is Curtis Bynum and in the past when
I've made the drive up to Cecil County, I pass a sign which reads, "Bynum Run" so this morning
I stopped long enough to take a photo of it for him:
At around 8:30 am, I arrived in the Cecil County Dragway neighborhood...
(I'd have probably gotten there a lot earlier if I didn't stop along the way and photographed
every sign in existence!
...anyway, by 9:15 am. I was in the tech lane...
...and in less than 45 minutes, I'd already made 8 passes and had packed up my belongings for the
drive home but, before saying good-bye to Cecil County Dragway on this final test 'n' tune of the
season, I stopped long enough to take a few more photos...
The above photo seemed familiar and it wasn't until I started writing this story that I remembered
where I'd seen it before... It was almost 5 years, TO THE DAY:

STRANGE or what???
By the way, all runs today were done with full interior which, in TERCEL1's case, means all
seats installed:
Before leaving Rising Sun, MD (home of Cecil County Dragway) I stopped to get some gas at one
of the only Sunoco stations I've ever seen that pumps, RACE GAS!!!
I, however, opted to fill up TERCEL1 with Sunoco's 93:
A quick drive-thru at Burger King (for gas of another kind) and I was rollin' southbound down I-95
when I saw this sign:
I felt that by taking a PHOTO of the above sign, I was helping ENFORCE the SPEED LIMIT
of 65 (I'm so silly at times but, ya gotta keep your sense of humor)
By the way, did I tell you that the name of one of my co-workers is Curtis Bynum and in the past when
I've made the drive up to Cecil County, I pass a sign which reads, "Bynum Run" so on the way home I
stopped long enough to take a photo of it for him:
Before too long, I was rollin' Southward on the B/W Parkway and then exit onto Powder Mill Road
(check out my concentration):
...and finally, a stop to pay tribute to TERCEL1's power...

Thanks Denys and Mo (of SRT) and the rest of the guys for giving me a car
(well, actually I paid a pretty penny) that made the 2011 drag racing season one of my quickest
ever and also a BIG THANKS to all the TGTT members who've followed the exploits
of my little Tercels throughout the years and have always been there with support and
encouragement!
Happy HoliDAZE!!!!
