TERCEL1: The "little Tercel"

Normally takes about an hour to drive up to Cecil but for some
reason (perhaps 'cuz it was a Friday and there was I-95
roadwork along the way) I left home at around 3:45pm and
after an 'almost car overheating' scare, finally arrived at my
destination, around 615pm!!! UGH

During the 'almost car overheating' scare, I did get off I-95 and
was prepared to turn around and go home but TERCEL1 cooled
down enough for me to get back on the road and drove on
without too much more scares (kept an eye on the TEMP gauge
every step of the way... (Whew)

Upon arriving and staking out a pit area, I proceeding to get
ready to race on the newly poured Cecil County 1/4 mile
surface... BUT, the announcer informed us, there'd be a slight
delay as the timing equipment was still in the process of being
calibrated. "Racing", we were told would get under way at
around 7:00pm-ish...

After getting TERCEL1 teched in, I picked a staging lane which
was near a Honda roadster from Pennsylvania.

We struck up a conversation and I found out this was his first
time to the track with the car and said he'd be happy if he got
into the 14s... I told him he'd probably do a bit better than
that... Kiddingly he replied, "If we get lined up together, go easy
on me."... we laughed and awaited our turn...

Well, as it turned out, the Honda and TERCEL1 were paired up
and I must admit, because the new track surface looked 'wet',
my first launch, (as you can see by the time slip) was rather
apprehensive:

Although TERCEL1 beat the Honda to the finish line, it was
a "come from behind" victory!

Back in the lanes, after I congratulated him on HIS run, he
looked at the time slip and said, "I see by your time, YOU
should be happy with the time for your "little Tercel"."

(If he only knew...)

...and know he would, in approximately :41 minutes when, at
8:23pm he and I were lined up once again, side by side with a
more dramatic outcome:

He'd mentioned, prior to the above race, that it might be his
last so, I never saw him after the run to congratulate HIM on
lowering his 1/8 mile ET...

...and to get his impression on the "little Tercel".
