TERCEL1: WTB a 4EFTE distributor

The subject line pretty much says it all!

It appears the "O" ring seal INSIDE the distributor is shot....

PS: Post intentions on this thread and not in a private message...

I want all who read this thread to know who might be trying to sell me
something and the likely hood of getting RIPPED OFF like I did with my
4EFTE crank pulley/harmonic balancer would be less likely!

Any chance of a pic Alf? Just so as I can see which seal it is.

Did you get a crank pulley sorted in the end or are you still on the hunt?

Seems like everybody that removes one of those crank pulleys winds up cracking
some part of it!? Apparently the type of puller needed for a smooth extraction is
the type which enables some bolts to be screwed into the 2 holes on the pulley
face and then a center piece which presses against the crank while

(it's hard to describe but, the proper puller is not the kind with the "claws" which
go behind the pulley! Those are the type which cause the pulley to KRACK!)

I wound up using the best of the two others pulleys I bought and the one from
the RIP-OFF ARTIST was not one of the two up for consideration!

As far as the "O" ring which I believe is messed up is the one which my engine
guy says is in the inside of the distributor... Because it's just leaking oil a tiny bit,
I wouldn't want to t ake it apart without first having another good distributor on
hand. My engine guy said that this "O" ring (the inner one) can NOT be replaced!

Wish I could be of more help... Perhaps tomorrow, I'll take a trip to the junk yard
and see if I can find a Paseo distributor and take it apart to see if, perhaps, it
also has an inner "O" ring just so I can see where and how it's situated?

In the meantime, the search goes on!

The seal you are talking about is a fancy little thing! You can not get them new I tried! Is a twin lip seal (it's got two sealing surfaces). I changed the one in my trigger wheel set up that's made from a efe dizzy, I machined an old dizzy down so I could knock the seal out with out damaging it, a hell of a lot of messing about! It works out better to get another dizzy I had to change my seal as its a compleat custom set up and would have been a bigger job making a new system.

Changing the dizzy is the way to go, I have a few spairs I think and a brand new gen Toyota dizzy cap and arm for the 4efe engine I can dig out if ya like.

I'm assuming the 4EFE and the 4EFTE dizzy are the same?

Sure, let me know costs (including shipping) would be and would consider it!
Even if I don't go with the purchase, thanks for the explanation about the inner seal!

Oooooooooo! Nice lookin' engine bay!!!

Glad I asked if there was a diff between 4EFE and 4EFTE!!!

Might I assume the 4EFTE dizzy has the same kind of inner "seal"??

Still looking for one (4EFTE dizz, that izz)

I found an undamaged pulley last weekend and immediately thought of you mate.. by the sounds of it I'll put it back into hiding again just in case lol.

When you say 'inner' seal do you mean the one that sits on the end of the shaft inside the cylinder head? If so I bought a new one last month for a customers car. Wasn't all that much from Toyota.

Jay this is a chopped down dissy I made for mine (the one on the right) under the bearing you can see us the oil seal for the shaft if that leaks oil comes through the dizzy it's self I think that's the one that's leaking.

Maybe I've just been lucky in the past but when I've seen an oil leak from the distributor it's always been the seal on the shaft that splits/cracks :

You can see this one has actually split in two:

When this happens you get a trail of oil down over the coolant housing and thermostat area:

The seal is readily available from Toyota.

Any of that looking familiar Alf?

Just thinking - where else would you get a full-on technical discussion in a simple wanted thread?

Mine was leaking from the little tell tail hole you can see in those picks Jay. It's brill for the tech talk on hear!!!

The familiarity is the OIL... Other than THAT, my shaft seal appears to be pretty intact...
My leak appears to be emanating from the 'weep hole'??

Still looking!

I have a 4efte dizzy asst and rotor arm. I can ship it out to you?

I have a lot of positive feedback over on ukstarletowners forum under the name Turbotobz, recently sold a LOT as partially breaking my car. If your interested pm me on there for a quick reply or on here if not and I'll try and remember to check... I don't use this forum as much as I used to as its very quiet unfourtunately nower days
