The nct in Ireland is a money making scam.

Brought the gf punto up for a retest today, all the bits that failed the last time passed. But the tester: more problems come take a look, I'm thinking ah fuck. I go over to the car and the is a slight twist in the nearside brake line, no damage not kinked, frayed anything perfect bar it had a slight twist in it.

I ask what's wrong with it? He says it affects the pressure on the fluid when braking, I ask did it pass the braking test he says yes, and I say to him you have just contradicted yourself now because if it affects the pressure surely it would fail the braking test, he gives me a confused look.

I then asked to speak to a manager who was a right prick, no hello, not customer service. Walks straight up to me it's a fail and that's it, said the exact same thing to him as I did to the other lad, it's a fail and that's it.

So now they want me to pay another 28 quid to retest the brakes that have passed the test twice already again and lift it up to see if the twist was removed.

I'm going further with this, I will get my cert or a free retest before the day is out. And now I'm looking at the printout and it says the brake calliper in question performed a little better than the offside one without the little twist.:hmmm)

Did the brake line fail the first time? Or was it being tested after the 28 days??

If not, then they cant fail it on the re-test, they can only test the defective parts listed when it failed first.

Shower of cowboys so they are, not a mechanic between any of them. I have too many stories with them, I wont go on :p

my car failed twice in ennis on rear springs, funny thing was i had stock suspension in there.. brought it to limerick and it passed and didnt change anything, went back to ennis and asked how did it pass in limerick and he shrugged his shoulders, i told him, if he ever blackens my step again ill knock out hes teeth.. wanker..

one thing i didnt know was, the set date of your nct is just say the 10th, if you fail, you only have 28 days to pass no matter how many times your car is retested.. i had to bring it to limerick cause ennis was booked out and the date they gave me was 2 days over the 28 days so i would of had to do the full test again if i didnt ask for limerick.. scumbags!!!

You are only catching this on now mate? lol

The MOT up north is a fucking joke at the minute. The trip home usually contains more swear words than the whole first season of Rab C Nesbitt..

The fact that the manager came over and said "it's a fail and that it" would absolutely wreck my head, pure ignorance.

Ive had this problem before too, only it was with the starlet, my braided hose had rubbed against the tyre at some point, no damage too the hose at all, it passed all the necessary tests to do with braking, failed it, i just fixed it and got the re-test done, iver never heard of them turning down a car for a different defect that what they originally failed. But im sure they will have something somewhere that says if they think that the car isnt roadworthy they can fail it so they can do this.

these tests to make sure a car is roadworthy, whether its the nct or the mot, are a farce. all it means is that for 1 day out of 365 its safe to be on the road. what about the other 364????

^^^Exactly, The car could be driven straight home and modified massively, have a massive crash and get a dodgy repair, etc etc.
Daft idea

There just taking advantage of people in these hard times, I recently bought a 96 Nissan Micra for 100 euro that has been parked for the last five years put it through the test there 2 weeks ago it failed on the front passenger headlight and the rear drivers tire had a few cracks around the rim I was amazed that they didnt fail it on the cv joint thats gone in the front passenger side the ball joint on the same side and the rear drop links which are rattling around like mad,
my Glanza failed on a rear spoiler brake light last year even though it was working I was confused to say the least there just taking the piss out of people with modified cars to be honest
