Tial External wastegate issu

Hi

Am having an issue with my tial external wastegate,38mm,v band model. Lately I have noticed that the boost pressure goes beyond the normal pressure, which is 0.8 bar on off mode setting. Even the screamer pipe does not scream as it usually does.I have been using this wastegate for the past 3 years without any problem. What could be causing this.

Cheers

I would check the diaphragm inside the wastegate as after a while they are prone to splitting. When you take it off you will have to look very closely as its sometimes its the smallest of rips. Before you do that you could check the vacuum hoses connected to boost controller and wategate just incase

I have double checked the vacuum hoses which are connected to the boost controller ad everything is ok. However my mechanic did told me that it could be the wastegate itself which is faulty as mentionned above. Can it be repaired or should i replace the wastegate.

Thanks

I would first replace the spring, they can get weak over time and cause fluctuations in boost pressure.

Believe you can get them repaired, but will most likely end up being cheaper to replace the unit.

If the spring is knackered inside then I would expect it will be boosting less rather than more, as the gate will open easier with a weak spring.

You changed your setup in anyway recently?

In my opinion i dont fink that the spring is faulty as it boosts well but it shouldnt boost beyond 0.8 bar on off mode setting. I have even tried to reduce the boost pressure to 0.8 on my Apexi avcr but it keeps on boosting above that figure and i guess that it could be the diaphragm. I have not changed my set up recently and it's still the same as it was when i first installed the external wastegate 3 years ago. The only change which i have made is the installation of a standalone ecu. Could this have an effect on the wastegate?

Not mechanically.
Although if you are now running a better tune and getting more bang in the cylinders that could affect boost levels I guess.
You tried disconnecting the AVCR and just running spring pressure on the wastegate?

I will disconnect it from the avcr and run it just on the spring pressure and see the outcome. I doubt it will be ok coz a friend of mine had the same problem with his wastegate and had to replace it.

you can buy each component of the wastegate online bro. so if something is damaged, easy to replace. just google the parts and you will find!

yeah its defo easy enough to get individual parts online for tial wastegates so i would see what part is at fault and replace it
