Uprated headgasket...?

Hi, I am about to run more boost with my standard engine but first want to fit a thicker head gasket. I will also skim the cylinder head while I'm at it so do i have to compensate for that aswell?

Any information on gasket thickness, where to buy and which manufacturer would be appreciated. thanks Jez.

Jezza!
I'm going to do the same thing, I'm thinking about going for something 1.2mm. I see fensport do the trd 0.6mm and they also do Athena gaskets and their own "fensport" headgasket. Some people have used Athena gaskets with no problems and some I think have had issues. Tuning developments stock the zep one I think, it's about £260 though. Might be worth getting in touch with some traders and seeing what they stock too. I'm not sure what size the standard gasket is, I think most people with updated gaskets run 1.2-1.4 for compressions sake.
Hopefully someone with more of a clue than me will help you out!

1.2mm and run at a 1.0 bar should be ok and don't forget a clutch while your there.. I'm sure if not slipping it will do at that.

The ZEP headgasket and CRUISE are well worth the money i must admit. I think i re-used my CRUISE gasket 5 times and it never leaked at all. Athena is always good if your on a budget.

Why thank you.

Just to note the difference in gains between 1bar or a smidgen above is negligible.

Pushing your ct9 1.2 or more is fairly pointless even with all the supporting mods.

I'd stick with the standard headgasket, can't see much being gained from running a higher CR with the TRD one.

thing is the stock head gasket is a non metal type and much weaker design. Yes it will be ok for the levels your talking about but replacing the head gasket is not like changing a set of spark plugs. Its a fairly involved job so when you've gone to the agro of taking it all apart why not put a little bit more money into the car and fit a metal unit, even if its a stock thickness etc so won't need retuning etc but will give you alot more piece of mind in the future against head gasket failures.

Metal head gasket all comes down to block and cylinder head prep, I've never had a single head gasket issue when i've done them using Cometic (which i am getting 4e head gaskets made soon), Yet i've seen some people fitting themselves have leaks. Same goes for athena, zep, HKS, APexi etc etc.

Don't bother paying £260odd for azep when a cometic or athena for £100 will do the same thing. There is no difference in strength.
