what sensor is this????

After a blocked radiator has caused serious head gasket failure i have removed the head to find all sorts of damage.A sensor has completly melted the sensor which sits at the back of the block directly under cylinder 2 just below the metal water pipe. can somebody please help as this sensor has me stumpted.

thanks dave thought it could be this but thought they had to be directly in the middle if the engine many thanks tho.

@ gaz.gt: wasn't your coolant temp gauge working to notify you early enough of eminent failure as the rad was blocked..? :( :( :(
i mean, for you to melt your knock sensor, that musta been some serious thrashing or a loooooooooooooong time before anything was done.. :/

The knock sensor possibly melted from steam escaping from the water pump rubber pipe onto the sensor when the head gasket fault drained the coolant system and boiled what water was left in there. The problem with the temp gauge there is once the water is out of the system then it reads pretty normal as there is no hot water on it!
