whats the deal with standalone ecus for the starlets

Just had my car mapped on a piggyback ecu after being told all will be fine its really not

So what standalones are good to use on the 4efte im running a tm developments forged engine with a hrf td05 kit and have 400cc and 550cc injectors to play with,

I wish i had gone for a standalone from the off as the map ive just had done has ended up working out more expensive

Any help would be great

I know a piggyback is just a signal bender and can only work to certain parameters yet when i asked for the work i was told all will be fine no issues max boost 1.6 etc
Yet 2 sets of injectors later and a raping of the bank account i have a car i cant run over a bar! New injectors are maxed out and i made 20bhp! Its on a dastek piggyback which was man enough for the job apparently
Anyway on boost its not bad off boost its awful gutless popping and banging and all i can think is my engine going pop
Considering i had a hks evc 6 fitted then left in the glovebox and my ecu fell out im under the impression ive been turned over

Have you got a wideband gauge installed? If so whats it reading? Have you got software to get into the ecu? Might be worth trying to pull the maps off and posting them up on here.

What you are describing doesn't sound good, normally sluggish off boost can be down to low compression engine, but I don't think it would be that if it was potentially fine before the map.

What kinda features do you want from an ecu as that ultimately determines what to go for, and obviously someone preferably local who can map it, its worth asking round who prefers what ecu's.
It depends how much you wanna spend? Omex, AEM are good base ecu's, if you got a bit more money then maybe look into a Motec M4 they can be picked up for about £600 second hand.

If the injectors are maxing out you may need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I think on the dastek it does not control the injectors directly, i don't know if or how it controls ignition timing?

Management systems used by Ep owners on the site that i have seen with good results piggybank wise are the Emanage Ultimate, AEM FIC,

Full standalones: Apexi Power Fc, Omex, Haltech, AEM even MoTec,
