whats this thingy

hello

i`ve got a starlet glanza V and was wondering if you could help with something that has bugged me since i got the car in may.
On the A-pillar on the drivers side there is this thingy that appears to be some sort of light but i don`t know what it is cos it doesn`t do anything at all.
it looks as though its standard cos its got toyota on it. any idea to what it is and how does work

Its map light mate, mine has one too , If its not working take the a piller off and check the wires behind there, if not that, check the bulb i suppose, duno if thier replaceable tho? :S
