if the circlip went in ok at the back end, then the bearing is in properly.
did you press the hub into the bearing fully? if it is fully in and the bearing inner race is tight on the hub, then it shouldnt have any real play in it other than just enough to allow for expansion of the bearing when it heats up. this would be barely noticeable if at all.
have you tried bolting everything up together? this would tend to pull it all tight as it should be
