Build your own.
Give me a budget and your wants and I'll spec one to your needs.
It may cost a bit less or a little bit more depending on your wants but It will be an infinitly better computer.

Personally I don't like Mac,they're not worth the price to me.

Don't see how they're light years ahead of Windows either?
Not having a go,each to their own, just wondering why you think that

the OS is light years ahead so user friendly simple, fast and packed full of features! i have had so many laptops my macbook pro is 10x better than any of them

I may try one so to see what the hype is about.

But to be honest,I can't imagine it being quicker than a 1200-1500 home built desktop (they cost about that right?)
You'd find it very hard to get the same level pf performance as an i5 2500k/i7 2600k build with a good motherboard overclocked with an SSD. Start up time can be less than 10secs start to finish, alot around the 7second mark.
Even an AMD build is pretty strong,I'm using AMD's strongest CPU with a decent mobo and only a 7200rpm HDD and never had any lag etc.

Pre built pc's are shite unless you pay through the teeth, you should try a decent one.

Plus a Mac OS can't play windows games, deal breaker for me.

i don't have a computer to play games, i have ps3 for that, when i first got my mac i hated it but now i would never go back! people say there expensive but the customer service is second to none, i know no other company that you can just walk into there store and just wait for a repair! new os is like £20 windows charge a fortune for theirs, they are built to last i had 3 laptops where the hinge has broken so got fed up.

and no doubt you could build a after pc for the money but thats like saying for the price of a new car you could build a faster one.

I would stay away from Apple for sure, seriously overpriced!

If you don't play any games at all, I would recommend to get a decent laptop rather then a Desktop, thus you can always plug it in to the Monitor or a TV if you want, but it might come in handy say if it's a nice weather [doesn't apply to the UK] and you want to sit outside browsing some internet or lying on the sofa/bed with a laptop like my missus does all the time.

Laptop won't be as noisy as the PC and will do exactly the same job as the Desktop.
