Turbo seals might be on there way out, or might be rings..

Try a compresion(sp) test to see if ya all fireing ok...

Sorry cany help anymore but thats all i can think of...

Does the white smoke smell a bit funny? Thats a sign of the turbo seals on their way out

It could be. The fact it takes a while at idle before the smoke starts is usually a sign of turbo seals - in my experience if its the valve stem seals the smoke starts quite quickly and you can get some smoke on overrun too.

Before replacing the turbo, try replacing the pcv valve first. I went through 2 turbos before I got to the bottom of the problem which was a £20 pcv valve which I managed to replace myself. Just make sure you also buy the seal it fits into in the top of the rocker cover as I guarantee it will shatter.

For info on the pcv valve just go to Toyota and tell them that you want a new pcv valve and the rubber grommit that fits into the rocker cover. When I did mine about 6 years ago it was about £20 for both bits. Then it was a 20 minute job to fit as the existing grommit shattered so I had to get the tweezers out to retrieve some bits.

Trust me it's worth doing first. The smoke I was getting from mine also had an oily smell and in traffic it just got plain embarrassing.

Try this first and it may just sort out your problem for a fraction of the price of fitting another turbo and that not sorting the problem.
