Whose done a 5E Conversion?

that's a very hard question to answer miller3......reason being that is depends on several variables.........like if u already have a 5e engine,,,,the availability of 4efte parts to u.....the price of parts from your toyota dealer or breakers or traders, ,,,,labor costs in your area......if u are doing a basic build or forging....etc

hope u get where i'm coming from

It will make a huge difference, longer stroke, more displacement, larger capacity. Engines are just like huge air pumps, the more air you can get in and exhaust efficiently the faster they go.

Personally I would change the rods while you are there and the engine is open, Pauter sets are pretty reasonable and what we run. This may not be an option for the international lads (currency rates) but for most it's defo an option I would consider pending funds.

It's not really hard in our eyes, simply a case of using the bottom end, using some 4efte pistons (we advise low comp with a thinner gasket rather than a 10mm gasket!), some 5e rods, a 5e clutch and fly (like ACT and Aasco we don't advise re-drilling but everyone is different), 4efte sump or mod the 5e - oil return), use a 4efte head (you can whack some 5efhe cams in there if you have some). That's the major really, everything else in minor in comparison.

Gorgan your list is really good, maybe tuned more towards someone that doesn't have a GT or Glanza to begin with. If you have a 4efte to start with then most of it will already be there to use. We only charge another £300.00 + VAT to do a 5e conversion (excludes extra cost of parts and obviously engine!). That covers the extra labour nothing that complicated really.

Overall you can net some bloody good results as already proven in Japan, taking into account 200hp and 400hp cars the difference can be seen.

yo toby...yeah...the list is pretty much all inclusive....i did not want anyone to feel left out...lol
and the 5e is a nice engine with a good turbo added:p....
the 5efhe rods and 4efte pistons are ok if the person is after a mild turbo set up......BUT if u know u want big power u need to forge as your have said

i can almost guarantee...that most persons who own a 4efte ep82/91 and drive a 5efte ep91/82 WITH the same/similar turbo set up........will want to convert to a 5e:p......the 166cc difference on standard form is just totally different:p

How much hp can the 5efhe enginge survive without being forged?
In the 4e it's something arounr 200-220 from what i've read on here.

Torque figure prolly will be a lot nicer with 5e, it being a bigger engine. Just read this thread, got my ep91 2 weeks now and still deciding what i'm gonna do with it, 5e conversion all of sudden looks real tempting :)

hey boss....there is no correct answer to your question in terms of 5efhe longetivity ---it will largely depend on your tuner.....and keep in mind this engine is about 100bhp -110bhp in stock form...so dont expect to make a 1000bhp from it

torque willd efintely be higher on the 5e assumin that both a 4e and 5e were built to the same spec

4e 203.3 and 186 ib ft
5e 230.4 and 241 ib ft
that should give you an idea of what the 5e does for your torque;)

hmmz, thought 5e would be best choice.

i'm thinking of ordering the cruise one (http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/CRUISE-5E-Complete-ZERO-Engine-EP82-EP91-Starlet-51115) don't know if anyone has any expercience with it?

Could also search for a 5e engine here in belgium and reinforce it, but i don't think it will be that much cheaper, cuz i need to send it to someone who can reinforce it anyway.

Just wondering if anyone has any expercience witht he cruise unit or heard stuff about it that i might need to know :)

Don't get us wrong Cruise are a fantastic company but there engines are a lot of money, you don't even get conrods. Overall you would be looking at just over £3300.00 with VAT.

Our engines are built to a similar spec and for £1850.00 you get forged conrods as well. Granted that's a full price for a 5e engine but all you need is a 5e bottom end and we can do the exact same like we have with many before. Pallete delivery to Europe isn't mad money either so I would say we could save you around £1000.00 for an engine capable of 350hp +. Just my 2C but rest assured we will be the new Cruise Power for the Uk without the mad prices!

We have supplied one of those once before and it took 7 months, now we just build them :p

Was thinking of getting my engine forged with you also Toby, but i thought if i'd want a 5E, i had to go and find one.

Can i send my 4EFTE to you workshop and order a forged 5E engine that is capable of 350hp+?

Yeah of course, we can usually find 5e bottom ends with the help of lads like Riko. We have one spare 5e bottom end at the moment but it's pre-booked for next month but we can certainly get on the look out for you. Our engines are also supplied with new water pump and new oil pump all OEM, bsacially everything we would change for piece of mind..

Hi,

I'm planning a rebuild + turbo conversion on my Sera's 5E FHE, currently one thing I'm still unsure about (tried to do a search but the search engine didn't like it) - Does the downpipe need to be modified to make the exhaust fit under the engine block?
Considering the 5E block is bigger I'm worried the 4E downpipe + exhaust aren't gonna fit under it...
