Whose done a 5E Conversion?

Hi,

I'm planning a rebuild + turbo conversion on my Sera's 5E FHE, currently one thing I'm still unsure about (tried to do a search but the search engine didn't like it) - Does the downpipe need to be modified to make the exhaust fit under the engine block?
Considering the 5E block is bigger I'm worried the 4E downpipe + exhaust aren't gonna fit under it...

mine fitted fine mate im using wepr manifold and downpipe

yo boss....if you are sticking to the stock 4efte ct9 set up...THEN u will need to have the down pipe or exhaust pipe adjusted VERY slightly...maybe 10 - 20mm......as the 5e block is about 10mm taller than the 4e block....so it the d/pipe may need adjusting

however, if u are changing the turbo set up...then everything has to be frabricated anyway...so u should have no problems

easy stuff either way......no real issues

and what about the knock sensor if we use the 4efte harness???
where do we put it in a 5efe block???

let me know

all the 5e blocks i've seen have a fitting for the knock sensor---same place as the 4efte

the stock 4efte knock sensor is places in the 5e block

are u saying you 5e block has no knock sensor?

i have never seen the knock sensor on my 5efe
can i have a pic of where the knok sensor is fited in the 4efte place??
let me know

the knock sensor is located at the back of the 4efte block ----near the water pipe that runs along the back from the water pump.....it looks like a big nut with a single wire connection (kind of how the oil unit looks).....i will try to find a pic for you

ok
i understand now
thanx for your help
i am rebuilding again my paseo with a 4efe turbo and custom harness with all the sensors from the 4efte ecu ...
with an emanage we can get better result with a 4efte ecu instead of the 5efe ecu...

I have a td04l on my stock 5e, no big head gasket no nothing.
Running 200HP at the wheels on 12psi.(limitation is the wastegate not holding).
I ran around 130-150Hp at the wheels for ages, same motor, just had a few other bits bolted on and dfferent turbo.
I would probably not go over 300 wth the stock compression even with water injection etc but car is great for response when high comp and also anything over 200hp at the wheels your spining even decent rubber :)

yo gtpornstar (i assume u are sham---a member from the old site way back when).....LONG time boss.....glad to see u still alive man

PS--if not just forget the comment....lol

I have just completed my 5E conversion.

The 4E had 75mm bore, flat top pistons.
The 5E has 74mm bore, -10cc dished pistons

Everything other than the bottom end is the same for the comparison.
TD04L
Home made log manifold
2.5" dump/exhaust
E-Manage Blue
FMIC, 2" piping

This shows power against boost:

Red is 4E
Pink is 5E

your lowering of compression and smaller size pistons have made some impact on your comparisons..but the 5e still seems to outperform the 4e power wise,

(edited)

however, ,,,good stuff still........just means u need to wack some more boost at it ........and maybe some tuning also

congrats

There is no torque figure on that picture.

It has been tuned as well as it can be. Adding any mroe boost past 15psi made no difference. As I have a log manifold that would probably explain this. We will be fabricating an eqaulish length manifold in the next month along with an external gate so will see how it goes then.

hey scragley....i now realise it's not torque........looks like boost from the looks of it (am i correct?)

in that case.....seems like the 4e held boost better than the 5e........do u have an electronic boost controller

i also remember a member saying that boost kind of tailed off on his 5efte tdo4l set up vs his 4efte tdo4l set up.........so u might be experiencing the same thing.........maybe the tdo4l is getting less efficient above 15/16psi on the 5e, whereas on the 4e its still ok maybe to 18/20psi........i dont know, but time will tell..........so just letting u know it might not be the log manifold, as his is tubular "equal" length

seems like the tdo4l will pull right through the rev range on the 4efte using 14.5psi/1bar,,,but will not do the same on the 5e......my information indicates that it stops "pulling" around 6500rpm on the 5e using 14.5psi/1bar

what was your torque figures? for both set ups...if u dont mind??!!

and seeing you are from australia......is that a whp figure??

Yes that is a WHP figure.

It's interesting that you say another guy with similar setup but equal lenght manifold doing the same thing. My tuner said it would either be manifold or cams. I was going to try manifold first as they are fairly cheap for us to make here.

I dont have torque figures on hand, will try to get them soon though.

I dont have an EBC, just a HKS actuator from the CT9 modified to fit.
